Because that's what he does, he help us perform the miracles in the name of Jesus, and comfort us when we are persecuted or sad.
He is the helper , the comforter

Because the Holy Spirit is a gentle Spirit and Jesus knew we would be tempted with other spirits that we would not be able to tell the difference of unless we had something to go by.

At Matt.11:19 Jesus personified "wisdom" and depicted it as having "works" or "children".Yet" wisdom "is not a person with an individual existence.Also,Romans5:14,21
personalises "death" and "sin" as reigning kings.But they are not living personages.Evidently Jesus did the same in regard to the spirit,he personalised something that was actually not a person.

Maaybe, thats why He calls the Holy Spririt, comforter.

i have no clue who came up with the word "comforter". in the arabic christian Bible is called "Al-Muez" which is has nothing to do with the meaning of the comforter.
translation is sucks!!
