Sorry but you're all wrong. It's true that they don't sweat but that's not why they stick their heads out the windows. If that were true they'd be just as happy with the AC on. Dogs analyze their surroundings by smell. When they stick there head out the window they are getting the thousands of smells from the neighborhood. Everything from the guys car down the road to the little chihuahua across the street to the dead raccoon on the side of the road. They like this a lot. It's not good to let them do this though because they can get eye problems from flying debris. Just crack the window enough to get their noses out. and not their heads. They wont get quite as much of the smells but they'll still be happy. And it will be a lot safer for your dog.

Yeah I believe it is related to a motion-sickness they might get while in a car. They have to have that fresh air I guess, in order to offset it...The car seems so closed-in to them and I guess they get both too hot and feel claustrophobic, but sticking their head out the window reminds them that they are not far from being outside.

My dog does that too.Most dog I guess like to expose themselves to fast flowing air currents.Mine likes to sit infront of a motor bike or a bicyle too.

Dogs get hot very easily, they need air to help their body temp to circulate.

They love the vantage point of being able to see everything and to pick up new scents, hopefully you'll stop and get them a burger!!
