If you have a job that you enjoy and have enough time to finish your work, then it has a positive effect on a persons mental health. You will feel proud that you are able to provide support to you and your family. Being employed will help you feel like you are doing something with your life. People often get stressed about their job because they feel that if they don't do a good job, they might lose their job. Stress has a definite effect on your mental health. It can often cause you to feel physically ill and not want to work. You should ask your HR rep about ways to reduce stress in the workplace if you are stressed because of work.

Mental health is affected by the general environment. Of course employment is a major part of a person's environment. A positive employment environment can promote mental health. A negative employment environment will harm mental health. Some people love there jobs and enjoy going to work, while others 'go postal.' I don't know what it is about the post office environment, but it seems to be a very bad one for mental health.

Employment/laco of can affect mental health.
Employment can cause you stress if you're not happy with your job, routine, hours cause difficulties with your home life, if you feel disatisfied with your wages, feel undervalued as a person in the context of the work place etc ...
Lack of employment can cause you stress if you feel frustrated at the prospect that you cannot get a jov when you want one, feel islolated when most of your family/friends are employed, miss the routine of going to and from work, company of work colleagues and struggle to pay your bills.

If you let it use you instead of the other way, it can change your whole personality. or it can even convert someone from a nice goody two-shoes to an ***-kicking bit@#. but its not really bad to be bit@# sometimes, if the need arises =)
