Rubbing alcohol does the trick, just make sure it's not on an area that's red, raw or open. And if so, try just plain old cooking/vegetable oil. That also breaks the bond of adhesive to skin. I hope your friend is doing fine after surgery! :)

You need to get a bottle of isopropyl alcohol - but you need to be SO careful using it. Not on wounds, or damaged or raw skin of any kind. It takes off sticky residue a treat but it does evaporate very quickly so make sure at put the cap on tightly.

WD40 is excellent for removal of sticky labels and their residue, plasters included. It's gentle on the skin too.

Use kerosene /paraffin.
Doesn't smell so bad and you can bathe afterwards.
Removes the residue 100% ;unlike acetone( nail polish remover).

Anything oil based like olive oil or wheatgerm oil. these will also help heal the skin or reduce scarring if there has been any injury to the skin.

Vaseline - Peanut butter would work also but it makes a mess. (you might even be tempted to bite on him/her)
