depends entirely on what you are using them for.

Gel candles are dangerous, especially around small children. Some of the gel candles have been known to combust (explode) spraying hot gel all over the place. If a gel candle gets knocked over there is also a danger of the hot liquid burning someone or something.
Wax is better.

I never heard of a gel candle unless you mean those fragrant candles that turn to absolute liquid.
I like those they seem to last longer. But bees wax is the best to burn supposedly. I hate candles that burn crooked or when the wick burns faster than the wax evaporates so then the flame is drowned out what a waste and how annoying is that?

I prefer the gel since there's not so much waste. It's very hard to burn a wax candle without only the center area burning and leaving most of the wax in the container. Also, it seems that the frangrances are much more aromatic.

Wax candles are better than gel candles in my opinion.
