I had read too a long time ago that, drinking water / any liquids apart from those like soups, tea as we eat dilutes the food and affects digestion.
Its like adding the liquid in the plate that we eat from and then swallowing it.Would we swallow it in that case ?
Similarly, we should refrain from doing so. Yes, leaving a gap of a few minutes after eating the last spoonful, and then swallowing water helps digestion.
This is what I had read.. However, everybody says something different and in the end we reach the same spot where we started out from.
Hence, I do what I feel best .

Drinking a lot of water during a meal will water down your gastric acids, and potentially slow down digestion of a meal. So, downing a liter or two of cold or hot water is not a good idea.
On the other hand, drinking water is not harmful in any way. It would be absurd to go thirsty, and a glass of water with your meal is normal and civilized. I also believe that it is always a better choice for our bodies to drink water rather than high sugar juices or - worse!! - pops or sodas.
If one starts listening to every other "health advice" from all kind of gourous, it would be a sad life!

Water is recommended in a diet, especially cold water helps burning calories. You can drink it while eating, it doesn't affect your weight. Juice and tea are could be considered meals only if they contain a high amount of sugar.

Water is always important in any diet. Liquids can be juices , teas, soups, what you have to watch out for are sugar , caffeine , and sodium levels. Always drink plenty of water and don't always believe what you read in some books.

Nature knows better. If you are thirsty during meals, drink water. Life does not come with a handbook. Supposedly you digest better without too much liquid in your stomach, because the stomach acids are less dissolved, but trust me, I drink water during meals and I have never had any indigestion!

I feel that the book suggests that it is better to drink water after the meals, there is no ban on drinking water during meals.
