Yawning is definitely contagious! When we see or hear someone yawn, it triggers neurochemicals in our brain that result in yawning. It goes back in time to the stone ages.. It's a sociocultural phenomenon that supposedly helps to signal sleep time. Interesting huh?

It is a primate response evolved in our species long ago. When you yawn, it means you do not have enough oxygen, and your tired. Its true that it is contagious. May be in the distant past it was one of the ways to get the female or male species to agree with you that its time to hit the sack.

It is totally mental.Yawning is enjoyable and one feels good after yawning. So when one yawn the nearby people also yawn as their brain permits to do so without any harm.If we have to pay then may be we will not.But do you know when I used to call my friend at his house he used to yawn and I felt bad.I felt he is avoiding me and it hurts me.So never yawn when someone is talking to you please.
