More than love, they need their approval. Have I done great with my job? Is my wife/husband everything you wanted them to be...
A person that constantly worries about their parents approval is always the person that will not get it. Real parent is there only to pick up their 30 year old kid if it lands on the nose (When i happens)
So-called parents are there to make your life miserable even when you are doing the best possible. That is probably the reason why, because they are mad that they could not have done it better in their times, facing the same problems. You are a great person if you are your own owner, beating the odds, and doing it all on your own. If they respect you and support you, keep them, they are worth it. If not, send them a card 5 times a year, but move far, far away...

Our existence, our foundation is based on the beginning premise that our parents love us, wanted us and care about our well-being. If that is false, nothing else we have been led to believe can make sense. It's irrelevant how old someone is when this illusion is broken. Every moment from that point forward becomes a huge question mark. "If *I* don't matter to the people who brought me into the world, what is my place in the world?" It takes time to come to terms with that and reevaluate one's rightful place in the world.

Well it's still hard to have thier parents not love them or hate them or not to take care of them. Just because the they are adults legally it doesn't mean they are adults! Also even adults need their parents support and someone they feel they can rely on.

Deep inside they are still mommy and daddy's little boy/girl. Family ties are strong and not easily forgotten or put aside.

You will always be your parents child, no matter how long you or they live. You will always have the emotional
need for your parents love. It is a rare, unconditional love that you can't replace...:)

It would mean your entire life was nothing but a mistake, and that they are shamed by you...

That's just depressing, your parents are supposed to love you unconditionally...and to have them not...that would be the worst thing that could ever happen to some one emotionally...

All we need is love, especially from our parents. If my mom said she didn't love me - omg - I'd probably want to kill myself. Luckily, my mother loves me very much.

everybody, or at least almost everybody, wants to feel like they're wanted, that their existence matters. so they want to know that the very people responsible for their lives love them.
