If it's dry and has split ends, you need to CUT IT! Cut off all that old, dead, dry split hair off! Cut it off to where the hair is still healthy (not split). If you leave split ends on, they will continue to split up the hair, going higher, unless they break off first. then they will split from the break and go up the hair from there. See how important it is to CUT IT OFF!?

After you cut it off to healthy hair length, you must be sure you are not abusing your hair. Use shampoo and conditioner for "DRY hair". Do not over- process your hair with chemicals like straighteners or hair dye. If you dye or straighten, go to a salon and have them do it professionally. Do not blow dry hair, and if you do, then DO NOT dry on "high" heat! Use a lower temperature.
It's best that you get a really good hair cut, deep-condition your hair regularly and try not to process, color, or use heat styling devices on the hair (dryers, hot curlers, flat irons, etc.,). Use a good leave-in conditioner after you shampoo. Try letting your hair dry naturally. If it is very curly, use good quality products for curly hair to control the frizz and define your curls. (A good source for curly hair info and products is www.ouidad.com)

Also, make sure you are eating right. Very dry hair may be a sign of some nutritional deficiency. Do you eat enough "good" oils like those found in olive oil, grapeseed oil, avocados, nuts and ocean fish? You may want to take vitamin supplements for essential fatty acids ("EFA"s) as well. Check with your doctor first if you have any concerns. Also, drink LOTS of water too-keep your whole body well-hydrated.

Summer conditions are hard on the hair. Wear a hat when in the sun to avoid drying out and/or color fade. Rinse hair in fresh water right away after being in salt water or chlorine. Keep the hair pulled back in the wind to avoid tangling. Try using conditioning products with sunscreen in them.

Good luck!
