I don't understand why you came here first; you can 'help him' by taking him to the vets. You have a legal and moral responsibility to do that.
He could have a virus known as 'kennel cough'; so called because it is extremely infectious and runs through kennels like wildfire; which he could have caught from another dog in the park not just from being in kennels.
Or he could have something stuck in his windpipe, or a heart problem, or lungworm or heartworm. You cannot do anything about any of these causes, only your vet is able to diagnose and administer treatment.
If you are on benefits your vet can refer you to the pdsa or blue cross or a similar scheme so you can get help with the bill.
If you have pet insurance the cost is probably covered.

Dogs usually don't cough repeatedly if it isn't something serious, and something serious needs the attention of a vet. Even Kennel cough can have serious consequences because it is often associated with other viruses such as distemper.

Yes, vets cost money. But how much is your pet's life worth to you?

Ring the Vet and ask if there are any child cough mixture he can have.

He might have an infection so its probably best to let the Vet take a look at him

The dog could have scratched his throat so honey might help.
But if the dog is coughing all the time and is in distress/uncomfortable the only answer is to take him to the vets for medical advice.

PDSA are very good if money is a bit tight.

if he's been to a kennels recently it may be kennel cough. If not, he could have a respiratory infection, or something lodged in his throat. Get him to the vets straight away and don't waste time asking these sort of questions to people who probably haven't got a clue. Your vets should be the first point of call!

Your dog needs immediate veterinary attention. You don't mention the age of the dog... This could be as simple as kennel cough (which is contagious) or as severe as a heart problem.

Sounds like "kennel cough" to me, which is very contagious between dogs. He should see a vet as soon as possible.
