It depends on your own moral code whether or not it's wrong. As for wise, I'd have to say probably not. You don't know the guy- he could have an std or be the kind of guy to hurt you or force himself on you if you were to get cold feet. If you are not sure if it's right, then don't do it. Don't put your moral fiber at risk by taking actions that are not in line with your beliefs.
