I do believe that an eye for an eye does send a loud and clear messege that the behavior is unacceptable and the conseqences are dire, therefor people would think alot harder before they act.

The main problem is why? If your eye was injured by an accident does that person deserve the same injury?
Also it is important to know 100% you are right. There are people on death row that were wrongly accused. (DNA evidence has proved their innocence.)
I would like to know how the "eye for an eye" would apply to people convicted of prostitution.

Have you ever heard of the downward spiral of violence that can result from "an eye for an eye". People are never satisfied with returning punishment exactly, if you are going to punish someone (and not forgive) you will probably feel the need to one-up the person. Instead of "any eye for an eye" it becomes more like "an eye for a limb".

none of these people get it or understand what it actually means when God required an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth it isnt about vengeance or revenge at all.
the truth is that it is about shalom. nothing missing nothing broken in your life. God didn't want any one to leave another person missing or broken cause of their deeds. example your cart lost control and you ran over neighbors chicken. well now he is left "missing" and "broken" he had lets say 8 chickens now because of you he only has 7. so to prevent him from being left missing you would give him another chicken to replace the one lost. it really is a loving law not a hate law men have twisted its original intent for self gain.

Well back in the Old Testament they did go by the eye for an eye rule, but every since Christ died on the cross he saved the world by paying the ultimate sacrifice. We no longer use that.
God wants us to leave the revenge up to him. And trust me.....Everything that anyone on this earth has done....they will be judge according to their deeds.

A prison term for an eye is justice, but an eye for an eye is vengeace. The point of punishment isn't to "get back" at the criminal, but to make sure they do not do it again.

As much as I enjoy getting revenge, in the end, it's useless. Taking another guy's eyes won't bring back the victim's sight, and killing won't bring back the dead.

You should have mercy on others who strike-out against you. From a moral point of view, he who strikes back, and takes an eye for an eye, is no better than he who caused the offense in the first place. Have mercy, understanding, and patience.
