I have a male neutered cat that is about 2 years old. We had him neutered at the appropriate age (I believe he was 6 months old). He has been acting a bit odd lately in that, and I am NOT trying to be fresh or perverted etc, he is starting to ummmm rub himself when he is in a lovey mood. Is this normal? I have been around cats all of my life and have had at least one all the time. He is an indoor cat. We have a spayed female cat that we adopted from Purfect Pals and she has also been fixed. She is outdoors. When she comes in from outdoors, the male cat will NOT leave her alone.

To add to my confusion, he has been walking the house and wailing lately. He has also been cleaning himself a lot.

I guess my fear is that even though we paid to have him neutered, he may in fact still be a full functioning cat.

Again, I am NOT trying to be fresh or offend anybody. This is an honest question at 1230 AM about my concern re my wailing cat. Thank you for honest and helpful answers.

UPDATE: We took him to the vet as he stopped eating and drinking. he was immediately provided with a catheter and has some serious "crystals". He is pretty sick but we got him in in time. Hopefully he will fully recover. he just became an expensive kitty in that he will now need Rx food for the rest of his life.

My vet said that w/in 48 hours of not peeing the cats body starts to shut down. My kitty's kidney's were already starting to go.

when in doubt, get the cat in.

as far as the other issue of rubbing himself-It could have been the onset of this issue or it could be behavioral. My vet said that once the cat is fixed it should lose all urges. Him chasing our outdoor kitty around is due to the smells of the "outdoors" on him.

thanks for your honest answers. I often wonder what kind of response I will get, but cat lovers tend to unite.

Thanks again!

You may want to take him to the vet to be sure he doesn't have a bladder infection or some type of urinary tract problem. The chasing after the female may not be sexual at all. There is no way that the cat can't be fixed, they remove the testicles. And by the way, thanks for being a responsible pet owner and having your cats spayed/neutered. At the moment my neighborhood is rife with unwanted stray kittens.

First things - you may want to get him into see a vet. Your cat may be prone to F.U.S. (feline urological syndrome) Male cats tend to be more susceptible than females, and can be fatal if not properly treated.
Did you know that a cat will purr both when it's happy but also when it's not feeling well?

Often, what appears to be "cleaning" is your kitty trying to tell you that something isn't right.

On the other hand, with the other cat being an outdoor kitty, while he's made to stay indoors...he may be letting everyone know that, "it's not fair!!"

But I would get him checked out - just in case! :)

I also have a male cat, he is 7 and fixed. If you mean he kinda...wants to do some stuff with the female cat then I have the same problem. But I didn't understand the whole "rubbing himself" thing. Sorry I am a little slow. But if it's the famle cat thing, my female isn't fixed and my male is. They have...you know....many times and she has never gotten pregnant. I wouldn't worry about it :) But if this doesn't help definately go to your vet.

I doubt your cat is gay. If Cody isn't neutered he's sufficiently previous to have reached sexual adulthood and could attempt to hump any cat he can. you may get him neutered if he's not already. If he's fastened then he's merely attempting to ascertain dominance over your different cat. As for the licking, cats that are friends groom one yet another to illustrate affection. it would not remember in the adventure that they re male or woman. maximum cats do not prefer to get dirty, cats are very tidy creatures, and some do exactly not prefer to play complicated. that would not recommend he's female.

First of all take him to a vet and make sure his neuter job wasn't botched or that their is not another problem. Second, male cats or dogs that are neutered can and do still have sex, they just don't make babies. People are under the misconception that neutering males stop them from wanting sex, it does not. They still get the urge and can still perform.

This is not so unusual. There are 2 possible reasons:
1. he still has some male hormons, it can happen if he has a hidden gland inside the body (crypsorchia).
2. It can be purely behavioural factor, like psychological. My cat who is neutered does some sexy movements when he is happy, but I think it is like expressing his love in this way, he would not be interested in a female cat.

Haha! Sounds like Mr. Kitty is having himself a good time.

Let me say this, animals can sometimes behave promiscously. I had a male dog who did the same thing. He would find objects to do this with thoguh, rugs, his matress.

LOL, perhaps you can video tape him in action and send the clip to Funniest Pet Videos.

If you win, buy him a female cat.

It sounds to me like he needs companionship.

did you have him neautered at the humane society or other rescue group? if so, then bring him to your vet and have him check that a testicle is not stuck up inside. this is pretty common and wont cause any big problems, and is a simple surgery to remove it.
if you got him neutered at your vet, then bring him back and ask them to check for the non descending testicle and if he does not have that then ask for a hormone test. good luck with it all!

It sounds like a retained testicle, it will be major sugery to remove it. But he is sterile even with it (the testicle is too warm to produce viable sperm). Your vet should have alerted you to the possibility.

This happened to my friend, the surgery was done with chemicals and didn`t work completely, so she went back to the Vet and complained, they did it again and it worked.
