I am OK with point form but the spelling is annoying (especially the text messaging style).

("ALOT" is not a word.)

http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/alot.html Perhaps this common spelling error began because there does exist in English a word spelled “allot” which is a verb meaning to apportion or grant. The correct form, with “a” and “lot” separated by a space is perhaps not often encountered in print because formal writers usually use other expressions such as “a great deal,” “often,” etc. If you can’t remember the rule, just remind yourself that just as you wouldn’t write “alittle” you shouldn’t write “alot.”

Case in point -- They don't look before they leap... just like you. Here's a little advice:

Slow down and proof read your work before you hit send.

Here's another one of your mistakes (see other member comments):
...or "use" full sentences?

Bottom Line - We all make mistakes so try not to be so anal about judging everyone else so harshly. Especially when it relates to material posted on such a dynamic web site as Yahoo Answers. Have fun... or become an English teacher.

a lot is two words, just so you know - not everyone was blessed with the gift of speech or eloquence or even good spelling, and why should they even try, if others can understand?
anyway, it takes too long to properly edit a response or question for most people who possess the skills to do so.

peace out.

I blame not only laziness, but the school systems too. I may not have proper grammar down, but I do try.

If people would learn how to spell, it would make everyone's questions a lot easier to read.

Well it's obvious, that people care more about the meaning rather than the spelling or grammar. If you understand it correctly, why bother about spelling or grammar ???

That is very funny, I personally think it's because of all the text messaging and IMing everyone does they get used to using slang. But also I think that people try to shorten what they type on here because we're given a limit to type what we have to say.

I guess that includes you. "A lot" is two words, not one. Next time you post to make fun of other people's poor english and grammar, at least use the spell checker for the love of Christ.

Thats the problem. You have to be able to understand what the person is writing. I don't, (do not) care as long as I can understand; I can even put my own imaginary commas in. However sometimes it's beyond a joke.
To answer your question, it's because it's not valued any more. :(

Because not everyone here is a native speaker of English.

Why not submit your next question in Hindi? Or French? Or Chinese?

Because most of the people on here are in a hurry to get answers for their questions
