in any question i read in religion, half of the answers are snide remarks from people who don't believe in God. why answer the question? why be rude? it seems to me that if you don't believe in something, you wouldn't spend a lot of time on it. i can't believe all atheists are hateful people. why, when someone is hurting or confused, would someone want to hurt them more? if there is no God, then neither He nor His following are a threat to you. i don't believe in astrology or horoscopes. so i don't read them.

i did not mean to have sounded critical of atheists. i respect their rights in regard to beliefs. i can see how it may be unfair of me to deny that they should be able to answer all questions. i just find there are some people who are very hateful in their expression. certainly not all. one of my questions was put to vote for best answer, and the winner chosen was atheist who gave me a very helpful and considerate answer that i appreciated very much.

Many of the questions in this category are directed towards atheists. That may be due to the many atheists who do like to stir things up here....but they don't represent all atheists. Anyway, other than pointing out the occasional funny typo, I don't give (what I would find to be) humorous, snide, or hateful responses to serious questions. (I guess I shouldn't say I don't...there may be a few slip ups in some of the questions I answers...but never hateful).

I actually mainly browse this section when I'm bored and have seen a link to it on a forum I visit. Truthfully, a lot of the questions and answers amuse me...because people give a lot of funny responses in here. If I happen to see a serious question pertaining to something I have knowledge of I'll answer truthfully and as nicely as possible.

- Just because someone doesn't believe in god or gods doesn't mean they aren't religious.

- This is both the religion AND spirituality category. Some people come here to learn about spirituality and they end up asking and answering and asking questions about religion as well.

- Everyone, no matter what their beliefs (or lack of beliefs) are, wants their view to be heard.

- Many atheists think religion is dangerous and wrong.

- Many atheists want to learn about different religions.

- There are questions directed towards atheists in this section.

There are many reasons why atheists, agnostics, and other non-believers ask and answer questions in this category. What about believers in god though, why are you here? If you really believed in god, then why wouldn't you ask it directly? It seems to me that you either don't actually believe in god, or, you're severely disrespecting it.

Mostly because your insistance in the existance of an invisible all-mighty being is insulting. I find the posts on what a groovy guy God is to be rude, considering how evil the book you base your beliefs on really is.

In point of fact, followers of any barbaric theology are not only a threat to me, but to life-kind. More death and destruction have been visited on mankind as a direct result of religion than for any other reason.

I am not a hateful person. If I were, I would simply allow religious people to promote their evil and immoral beliefs without challenging them. Conversly, if Christians were good, righteous, and upstanding people, they would stop trying to convert people to their religion of hatred and violence.

Every time I point out what an evil religion you follow, I am forced to endure one rationalization after another. This insults my intelligence, and the intelligence of free-thinking people everywhere.

This God you revere so much is a concept that any moral and rational person would flee from, not worship. All it took for me to come to that conclusion was to read the Bible.

I suppose you could go so far as to say that I'm trying to save YOU.

Food for thought...

1. The existence of a Supreme Being is unknown and unknowable.

To believe in the existence of a god is an act of faith. To believe in the nonexistence of a god is likewise an act of faith. There is no evidence that there is a Supreme Being nor is there evidence there is not a Supreme Being. Faith is not knowledge. We can only state with assurance that we do not know.

2. If there is a Supreme Being, then that being appears to act as if apathetic to events in our universe.

All events in our Universe, including its creation, can be explained with or without the existence of a Supreme Being. Thus, if there is indeed a God, then that god has had no more impact than no god at all. To all appearances, any purported Supreme Being is indifferent to our Universe and to its inhabitants.

3. We are apathetic to the existence or nonexistence of a Supreme Being.

If there is a God, and that God does not appear to care, then there is no reason to concern ourselves with whether or not a Supreme Being exists, nor should we have any interest in satisfying the purported needs of that Supreme Being. However, our apathy to the question of God's existence does not necessarily mean we are apathetic about promoting agnosticism.

Not all atheists are hateful people. I feel like it's hateful that you say that all atheists are hateful. Being an atheist and having a lot of atheist friends I know that most atheists have a background with religion in it. I struggled with my decision and I struggle everyday with the crap people give me for not having faith. I think when people have religious questions atheists have had some experience where they have asked the same questions and they ended up atheists. That is probably why they comment on religious questions.

some people answer them because the study them. and some people are just mean. and some people believe in a god perhaps just not the same way you do. the basis of every relgion is the same: treat your family, neighbors and strangers well, be the best person that you can be. and dont harm people. perhaps we are all trying to reach the same place in out own way. no matter what we call it. some people are so offended by the word GOD because it implys that there is no room for another explination. and then like i said before some ppl are just mean.

Honestly, this medium is a way to get opinions out there, unfortunatly alot of younger people will express things ina hatefull way...for example...i believe in a higher power, but detest religion.....i will under most circumstances when given the chance let people know why......so depending on certain questions i will most certainly give my opinion on religion, and the fact that i do not believe in that sort of organization.;;;;;;;and as a side note....at one time i did go to church, i did accept Jesus as my savior however over the years i have grown up.....and learned to stand by myself....and think for myself along with my husband and son; I dont need a church to tell me what is right and wrong i think i have strong enough moral grounding to know that for myself.

Honey, this is a religion and spirituality section. It is not a christianity section. People can be religious and spiritual without being christian.
Non christians can be rude because they are sick and tired of being flamed and judged for their beliefs by christians who seem to be under the impression that they have the monopoly on r&s.
If this was a christianity section, it would say so, it wouldn't be categorised as r&s.

they don't believe in god because they haven't been saved, and they haven't been tought about him.

its hard putting someone in a room with old people singing songs from an old lady playing the piano and telling them theyre gonna learn god.
they just havent gotten the oppurtunity when they were younger to learn in sunday school.

parents lack.
