Off hand, I would think that if he got ticketed, then you could indeed be ticketed for not wearing a seat belt in the rear seat of a car in Puerto Rico.

Where I live, if you go to court you can try and get the ticket lowered, which will probably lower your insurance. Then, always remember to wear your seatbelt. They're there for a reason. I'm not sure how the insurance bit works in CA, but that's how it is over here. Most people I know go to court.

Big fine regardless if you go or not , plead no contest , cause you can not fight it , OK so pay the big fine and start wearing your belt its the law, driving is a privilege not a right you must obey the law to the letter, or they will take away the privilege, good luck in court

Even if you are gonna plea guilty show up, if you dont ,the judge could issue a bench warrant for failure to appear in court. Also, if the officer that issued the ticket is not present, you can try and argue the ticket, and say that you had it on and the officer didnt see you wearing it :-). But show up, yo dont want a bench warrant haunting you......

Yes; it's an automatic guilty verdict if you don't show, and they might so much as double your fine.

As for contesting the ticket--if the car had rear seat belts and you weren't wearing yours, don't even try to argue. You were caught. Wear it next time...it just might save your life.

ya CAN go to court. They may reduce the fine, but it'll stick. They're required for all passengers. If you're below 15, generally, the ticket'll go to the driver. 16 and up, it'll usually go to the person.
