Bailiffs do not "lockpick"
On correspondnece to you, it will say that they are able to gain entry with a proffessional locksmith if you continually refuse entry.
This is done in the presence of a police officer, and as such is a legal procedure.
I would advise you to pay what is owed, because they won't go away.
It is however illegal for them to not offer you an "arrangement" whereby the debt can be cleared in monthly instalments in proportion to your income if you are not able to clear the full amount in one go.

No. I looked into this when me and my partner were threatened with Baliffs. You do not have to allow them access but once you have they can then enter your proerty at any time as long as they do not cause any damage. So, if you invite them in or allow them to step into the house then they can then gain entrance again.
