At night I leave my 8 week old Shih Tzu in the laundry room with her crate open. She cries all the time so I bring her crate and her up to my room and let her sleep with me. Should I keep doing this?
What do I do to stop the cries and whine?

Your puppy craves company and has already learnt that as long as she cries ... She gets it! You need to reverse the behaviour.

Is her crate large and comfortable enough? Hs she enough room to move about in it? If so crate is fine but the door should be shut at night. Put her favourite blanket, some toys in the crate. A furry toy will soothe her. Finally leave a radio on, not too loud though! So that she doesn't feel abandoned.

Leave her if she cries. i know it sounds harsh on her (ANd you as you need your sleep too) But she will understand that crying is simply not the answer!

Make a fuss of her in the morning, show her how you enjoy her having her with you. She will soon understand that night time is to be spent in her crate and stop crying.

The best thing to do is keep her where she is, you need to establish yourself as the alpha.

Perhaps what you can do is leave something of yours like a sweater or pillowcase in her crate for the time being, or I think if the case is loneliness, place a large mirror in the room and she may think there's another dog there with her.

If nothing else fails, put a fan on for some noise, let her get used to it and assert yourself as the one in control. Just make sure there's nothing of any significant value to pee on or chew up if she chooses to act out.

You're creating a monster. You are rewarding the bad behavior. Your dog knows if it cries and whines long enough you will come down and get it. Puppies are like babies. It will cry & whine to get the attention it wants. It will be hard for the first couple of days to break this habit. YOU are the pack leader. You must set the rules / boundries for your pet just like a child. They will test you and try to get away with things ie; pulling you on the leash when you walk, eating your shoes etc. GOOD LUCK!

ignore it!!
yeah it sucks I know first hand, but unless you ignore it with her in the laundry room it will never stop until she is sleeping with you... if you dont mind that then there is no problem, but shes lonely and she either needs to get over it or get a sleeping companion. A quiet tv worked well for my dog, the sounds made her think someone was there and she slept much better.

I wouldn't have her sleep with you. Start as you mean to go on. My shih tzu slept upstairs with me for two years. He started to have behaviour problems (well known in shih tzu) once you start somthing it is hard to break the habbit. I have been to a behavourist and I have had to stop certain things that being one of them. After 3 months he has just stopped crying at night. shiz tzu become very dominant. Let her no who is boss straight away. I have been to soft with mine and now he is boss!!!!!!

Your dog is crying at night, because she doesn't want to be alone. If you care for your dogs feelings, keep her with you at night. Her crying will stop, and you will enjoy the company.
How would you like to be locked in a crate, in the laundry room. Any living thing, with feelings would cry. Try it yourself one night, and see how much you like it.
Your dog is a living individual, with feelings and emotions, treat her as such, OK.

Its normal for puppies to cry. Sometimes they just miss their littermates or mom. Try giving the pup a heating pad to lay on and maybe a toy to sleep with. If the crying continues past a few days you might want to have a vet look at it and see if its something more than anxiety.

Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for him. dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before he needs to relax. It will keep him happy, but reduce stress.
If your grocer doesn't carry chamomlile, you can use 'Sleeptime Tea' as it is the same, but with added herbs. Plain chamomile tastes better to a dog.

dog breeder since 1968.. I used to give Dobie pups Chamomile at bedtime, to keep them from being sonic motion detectors, and we all got better sleep.

Just a puppy! Try winding a battery operated alarm clock (One that ticks loud) usually cheap like 3.00 at Walmart... In a soft towel wrapped next to her. This stimulates the dog
as the alarm clock is simular to the heart beat of her mother.
