I wake up several times a night and simply can't get to sleep again. I'm healthy, have a happy family life and I have no major worries that keep me awake. Any suggestions what I could do to fall asleep faster after waking up?

I have a little son who wakes me up during the night, but i wake up anyway. I work out ~ 2 hours a day, and I am tired enough when I go to bed, I also have a more or less routine, I go to bed and get up the same time every day, because of my son.

Because of the way you describe it (no major worries etc.), I think I can help:
One of the EASIEST to fix, insomnia is often simply a symptom of magnesium deficiency.
Many people are deficient in more than one mineral, but magnesium is a big one. Find cheap magnesium citrate at a respectable health food store and take it about half an hour before bed-- around 200-500 milligrams-- see how much works for you.
Remember that this magnesium is in addition to any that might be present in a calcium/magnesium supplement.
Take it by itself right before bed, and it can assist with deep and lasting sleep.
Make sure to set that alarm!
Good Luck :)

I would suggest keeping a strict sleep schedule making sure you get up at the same time each day. Limit anything around you that could wake you like a pets colar, or any noise that could be waking you and you don't know it. I personally use a fan to drown out any noise. Also avoid caffeine several hours before bed.

Make sure you don't sit in your bedroom watching tv, and stay away from alcohol. When you hit the bed, do it to sleep (or the other night time activities adults sometimes partake in - but NOT tv!!).
If all that doesn't work, try melatonin. Its a natural ingredient that your body produces itself to sleep at night. Works like a charm for my husband and I both. It really helps stop the middle of the night wake-ups, and helps me return to sleep faster. Also, there is no nasty sleeping pill "hangover" the next day.

Glass of milk, warm bath, sex, nothing violent on TV an hour before going to bed, go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, spray lavender scent on your pillow, white noise, earplugs, a gentle walk after dinner, don't eat too late...
If all else fails, see your physician. You may have a sleeping disorder.

I would like to suggest you try taking melatonin about an hour before you go to bed. It's not a sleeping pill, it's an herbal supplement. It doesn't make you feel groggy or stupid in the morning. It just helps your body to get back to its normal rhythm. You can buy it at your local health food store.

After you wake up inhale and exhale, keep doing that until you are completely relaxed. Dont think about falling asleep let it happen. Or go to your doc and get some pills so then you wont wake up until you need to.

try having a great bed or if that doesn't work try drinking milk before you go to bed or reading a boring book until you sleep. Maybe it's not how you sleep. Maybe something's wrong. Try seeing a doctor.

Sleeping pills are good - also try not to have any caffeine after 3pm and don't drink to much water before bed.
Ensure that you have dinner no later than 8pm as you body will be working overtime to digest it.
Good Luck!
