Celebrity status does not give someone the right to have extra "vanity laws" created just for them.

I think a lot of the answer you are looking for comes derives from your use of "wrong and unnescessary (sic)". The press in the US is given a lot of leeway - indeed, they are called the Fourth Estate (an unofficial oversight branch of the US government) for that very reason. There are certain laws in place that keep them from getting too powerful, and sometimes the bottom feeders of journalism (namely paparazzi and aptly-named stalkerazzi) get so abusive that they endanger the protections that are needed to be considered legitimate guardians of the public trust. I am not alone in thinking that if the paparazzi had caused Lady Di's death, they should have been strung up en masse. that being said, the role of the journalist in society is to report to the public that which they seeor have discovered. Sometimes that is also defined as feeding the public the news that they want. And sometimes that "news" is about what a cute puppy dog did with a cellphone, or something more prurient, like going through Jolie's trash to verify that she had taken a home pregnancy test. You get the good with the bad.

In the US the press operates very freely. There is little the govt has the right to suppress. If the photos don't depict the truth, then the celebrities can sue the newspaper.

Why should they ban these photos? They (the models) knew it was part of the job when they took it. I don't feel sorry for them. They make huge sums of money for being in the limelight. besides if U start banning these pics what will they ban next jazz, hip-hop, Leonardo DaVinci ?
