From what I have been reading on the internet news lately, it sounds to me like nothing much usually happens to the human smugglers. I read that the illegals pay the "coyote" an amount that covers up to three attempts to cross the border, meaning that when they get caught and sent back, they will keep taking them back up to a total of three times for the money they paid. How does the coyote get the opportunity to attempt to take the illegals over the US border three times, if they are caught and put in jail on their first or second attempt? It sounds to me like they are basically all, coyote and illegals, just picked up and dumped back over the border so they can keep on trying. Pretty stupid - they should arrest the coyote and take all money he has on him and put him in jail for a long, long time, and then ship him back home, closer to the Guatemalan border end of Mexico so it is harder for him to come back again.

well im sure it includes Jail, Fine's and the fact that your doing your country a great dishonor probly wont sit to well with others. Not to mention all the hard work people are doing to keep illegal's out of the country, You want to have to compete for work next to some guy you might have brought accrost the border?

There is no set penalty. All depends upon the judge/jury (if they have a jury trial after caught).
There SHOULD BE a stiff penalty - but as of this time not written within law.
