Not anymore harmful than walking a person through some rain. Dogs are an outside breed, and they are known to like water. They can jump into a pool, come out soaked and shake themselves dry. Shepherds have to stand by their flock night and day, rain or shine, until they are off "duty" by their master. However, dogs CAN catch a cold, but that would be from exposure to germs rather than an actual weather condition, rain cannot cause an illness but it can weaken an immune system since the body works harder to keep itself warm if its cold and it might not fend a germ off properly.

No, it is not harmful. (dogs get baths at times and that does not harm them so why should a little rain?) I also take my dog out in snow, as she loves it. We don't stay long as she has a short coat, but it is all I can do to make her come in out of either rain or snow (she is about 95 pounds). Both people and dogs do not melt, so have a great time walking in the rain!

Nope, I live where it rains 118 inches per year, even more this year, and I walk my dogs 4 times per day, rain or shine. Just dry your dog with a towel when you get home. If she/he is shivering, turn up the heater until dry.
My dogs don't like hard rain, but love it when it is light...but, they have to walk anyway.
I also work evenings at a boarding kennel. We all walk, rain or shine.

think about it dear! animals have fur for a reason.
however some domesticated dogs (fat stay inside types) can become prone to the flu. but in general dogs can handle a lot more harsher weather than a little rain i.e. huskies and blizards, st bernards and snow etc.
i expect the best suited pets with rain would have to be a goldfish :)

rain is fine for them, just not a storm of course. dry them off or give them a bath when you get home. So they won't be cold or get sick. My dog doesn't like to be outside when it's raining but I'm sure some do. Just like some like to swim.

Not at all! They love it just as much as we do. It is just as safe as taking them swimming in a lake. What is more important is to make sure they are sufficiently warm and dry once they are back at home with you.
If not, they could get a chill which could result in them being uncomfortable, or it could escalate into something worse like a fever and eventually an infection that they will need antibiotics from the vet in order to treat.
Have Fun!!!
p.s. If you really want to get crazy, you could purchase a doggie "raincoat" from online.

No problem at all! As long as your dog isn't recovering from a disease such as Parvo because the moisture in the air can cause problems.
To rawnerves, if you have nothing nice to say please refrain from answering as your "answers" show your total lack of intelligence or class.

It really depends on the breed of dog you have but getting to wet is not good for any dog nor is it good for you either.
Whenever your dog gets wet just remember to dry off your dog really well or it could get ill and I'm sure you wouldn't want that to happen to your dog and also dry yourself off too or the both of you could get ill.
You sound like someone who really cares about your dog and your concern shows by asking for advice about this matter and I commend you for that.
You are a good pet owner and good luck to both of you wet ones.
