When people talk bad about the bible, people are always like - have you read the bible? I am really quiet. Disturbingly quiet for some people. I don't talk about stuff unless I know what I am talking about. It's actually learning about the bible and reading it, that has caused me to be offended by parts of it. How can you really have a problem with something that you don't know anything about?
.... But I guesse it does happen. Often other religious people have issues with wiccan, or other religions they don't know anything about. So I guess that's why they might think I can have a problem with the bible

Sometimes people can become offended by someone else's silence because they don't know why the other person is being silent. Their minds are free to wonder if it was something they said. Something they "should" have said. The best way to avoid those awkward silences is to be honest with people and tell them that you are having problems trying to digest certain parts of the bible and reconcile it with others, and that you need their patience while you learn, for however long that takes you.

The bible has absolute truths like John 14:6 so naturally it will offend a set of the population. I say you need to study the whole thing in it's entirety. When I get to a section like that I say this isn't logical ok I know the nature of God so there is more there than what is at face value...
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned

Why is it that you assume that they assume .. hehe just being silly.. actually.. that's a very valid point.. My wife is a Mormon, and when she wanted me to study with her elders, I didn't object. Though, I have been raised as a Jehovah's Witness. They began by spewing myths about my religion, and how they were so much different. Things like, I understand that JW's believe that Jesus and God are the same person. I said nope. And, they were surprised to hear this. And then continued to mention other rumors they had heard, and sadly they were far from the truth of my former faith. What I found humorous about this... was that shortly after.. they exclaimed in church about how upset they were on the misunderstanding of other people about their religion. They were upset when someone answered their door and said, "You are the folks who don't believe in Jesus right?" HAHA What comes around goes around I guess. It's just silly really.

You don't have to do drugs to know drugs are wrong, and I guess some people follow by the same principle on things such as religion. They don't HAVE to read the New Testament, Old Testament, Koran, etc. to not believe and/or that particular book of "religious" text. People form opinions based on what they know, and some know more than others.

They're not "ignorant", but that was a cute try though.

eh...people ask me if I've read the bible quite often simply because I think it's a useless book. I think a lot of people who consider the bible some sort of divine spiritual guide must look past all the problems within the text. So, since they are reading it in that manner they think it's great and imagine that anyone who thinks otherwise must not have read it. *shrug*

I don't know but middle eastern people in particular do that to me all the time. Always saying 'sorry if i hurt you in some way'. Normally they've said something that I don't have a reply for.

you are right in a way if you are not qualified or don't know a lot about a subject then you should not talk about it, but if you would like to learn more about a subject then there is nothing wrong with that either so talk about what you know and if you feel uncomfortable then avoid conversations like that good luck!!!
