My 4 year old son is for the most part potty trained during the day but still wears a diaper at night. We've tried to limit drinks after supper and encourage him to pee before bed but most mornings he's still wet. Any suggestions???

Any bedwetting in the family? Some kids simply don't have the bladder capacity/control to stay dry through the night at 4. Nothing but time will fix that.

At about 6 or 7 I bought my son--at his request--a set of sheets with a metal pad between them that set off an alarm when it became wet. He would get up and wash his face with cold water, change the sheets, then go back to bed. In about 2 weeks his bedwetting was over.

I agree with some of the others. If your son doesn't have a medical condition, then try setting your alarm for 12, 1 or 2 am, and wake him for the potty. I know this is hard when you are dead tired, but it beats washing bedding everyday!! also if the child wet's the bed, then wakes up straight after, then the child knows what has happened. Therefore you could try making the child sleep in the wet bed for the rest of the night, sounds cruel!! Only use this method if you think the bed wetting is due to laziness, or for attention.

Sometimes, like was said before, it just takes longer for some kids. Not to worry -- there are plenty of children at 5 and 6 that bedwet. Continue being supportive and loving, and it will pass like the phase it is. Every child develops differently. Wouldn't even consider any medical treatment for at least 2 years.

i would say his muscles just need more time to get stronger to hold the urine. some children it just takes longer. my son is 3 and he wears his regular underwear to bed for the past 6 months and doesnt have accidents. i guess we are just lucky. i would keep limiting the drinks and still encourage him to potty before bedtime, eventually he will be able to hold his urine. or maybe try waking him up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. good luck.

What worked on my godson was my suggestion to his mom to set the alarm for every 3-4 hours for a few days, then up the time between alarms by 30 minutes every few days. After I believe 6 days he was waking by himself to go once a night, then shortly after he was able to wake up and go only as needed.
I didn't have to train my own daughter at night, she self trained. My son is getting trained next, i hope this tactic works for us as it has for my friends, Goood luck!

How about a Wake up call to go to the toilet at 12 midnight or just before you go to sleep.
