I'm a Catholic theologian and I can tell you that throwing scriptures at pagans isn't what you are supposed to do. The great missionaries to the pagans never stood on soap boxes and quoted scripture in the town square. Rather they used intellegence, logic, and respect. I understand your pain when you get verses thrown at you.
Yes I pray the rosary!
Praying the Rosary has been known to
1. Cause people to convert to Catholocism.
2. Provide a general sense of peace when prayed with at least a spark of faith or a hope that what is said could be true.
3. Send evil thoughts / spirit to flee.
4. In 1945 when the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a small community of eight Jesuit Fathers, only eight blocks from ground zero remained unharmed (the people and the building itself) while everyone else in a radius of 1.5 Km from the centre was killed. 200 scientists had carried out investigations for several years in search of scientific explanation. There was only one thing that made their house different than the others: They recited the Rosary every day.
5.During his Pontificate (1566- 1572) Pope Puis V found Europe was threated by Turkish invasion that was swallowing up Eastern Europe. Pius was able to call the countries of Europe to unite and pray the Holy Rosary and succeeded in orgainzing an army . He had a Rosary given to each and every soldier with the instructions to pray, thus on September the 30th 1571 against all odds, the much smaller European fleet (about 5000 Men) went into battle against the might of the turkish fleet (about 30,000 Men), and on the October 7th the battle of Lepanto, off Greece was Won.
And a host of other things.
The Rosary is among the most powerful prayers in a Christians arsinal.

Not all Catholics pray the rosary. For some people the rosary is their form of personal prayer. It helps them to feel more spritual, and closer to God.

channa-typing this for a friend, a Loving Catholic. When we repeat a prayer or set of prayers several things happen. Here's a few.First of all it disciplines and exercises the mind in its structure rather than its thought processes, strengthening its ability to think, remember, manifest matter in form, and the like.
Many prayers are "loaded" with Spirit also, God's Spirit, the person prayings' spirit, the spirit of the prayer itself. Spirits usually provide a "lightening-like" charge that illumines those words into manifestation in one's Life...thus making the mind even more efficient.
The subtle "body" harmonizes with the prayers (mantras) repeated (or sung). The more repitition, the more harmonization. and the more likely the manifestations that occur in ones Life will resemble the repeated words and their meaning. One can feel the subtle body of another easily We discribe it as their "mood" or their aura or their countanence. Everything most people manifest is filtered through it...so it is good to feed it the things we wish to experience in our Life...like feeding our Mind. What goes in, comes out...different name and form, but the same Energy.
Practices like these greatly help the Mind in its job of manifesting and maintaining one's Life here. Repitition, especially of prayers, will help keep the person fucussed in the nature and direction of those prayers...in this case God! And, as the repition stills the mind, the Heart"s Energies can flow through, clensing and revitalizing the Mind's Essence. It is truly the bridge that connects the Spirit and the Flesh.

Praying the Rosary is not first of all a question of "What's in it for me?" but rather of "What can I give to God?". When we pray the Rosary, we are putting ourselves under the loving gaze of God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She offers our prayers to Christ, and makes them in fact more holy. Everything that passes through the hands and heart of the Virgin Mary is purified in holiness, because it is transformed by love.
To pray the Rosary, then, is an act of love which we offer to the Virgin Mary. It is a prayer of tranksgiving for all that She does by interceeding for us. It is a prayer which brings joy to Her Immaculate Heart. To say, "Hail Mary!" is to bring to mind, for the Virgin Mary, the joy which She had when the Archangel Gabriel first said those words to Her some 2000 years ago.
Pray the Rosary and you will find that it brings peace to your heart. It brings peace to the family. And ultimately, it will bring peace to the world. The Holy Rosary is God's instrument of peace.
Good luck in your search.
