they seem to be one of the last untainted meal groups... they can be found anywhere... can reproduce rapidly... and could possibly be a cheap solution to world hunger...so why dont more people eat insects?

I agree!

In Australia we eat prawns and shellfish by the bucket load. I said to my man just the other day that prawns look just like underwater insects and we had the same conversation that you just raised in your question.

I know in some countries crickets are a delicacy, I have never tried one, but I imagine that it would be on par with a prawn.

It is a very good suggestion if you ask me

Except for certain tribes who would find grubs and eat them, I haven't heard of many who include insects in their diet.

In the 70's there were some who would promote worm burgers, or eating insects, and I have heard of chocolate covered ants.

I don't know what the nutritional value is, and some could be difficult to digest, due to the hard shell. But I see no reason shells could not be removed in preparation.

And I agree that insects seem to be the terrestrial equivalent of crustaceans. Certainly there are many among us who would love to eat shellfish more often!

I think this is a cause that needs an advocate. Check back to let us know how you are getting on with it!

If you just got them a month ago, they may still be adjusting to their tank, etc. We got a turtle several months ago and I never saw him eat for at least that long. he must have been eating, but he did not go after the food while we were watching. Now, however, he goes after his food as soon as he sees it and wants to eat 2-3 times a day! The turtle food sticks are good --also ask at a pet store about other things your particular turtle can eat. Be sure to keep the tank clean and don't let uneaten food stay in the tank too long.

People already do but are unaware of it. Bugs get into processed foods. I don't mean they chew through the box, I mean bits & pieces of bugs are already in the foods when we buy them at the store.

But I see your point, and if cooked & served right, I'd try them, as long as they don't look gross, and as long as they're not WORMS. YUCK!

It's a cultural taboo. You have to remember that some coastal socities completed collapsed due to starvation because it was considered "bad" to eat fish, and they used up all their resources on land.
