First Step Is To Mechanically Remove Adult Fleas And Immature Forms By Vacuuming Thoroughly. Concentrate On Where The Pet Sleeps And In Areas Your Pet Spends A Lot Of Time. After Vacuuming, Place The Vacuum Bag In A Plastic Garbage Bag And Throw It Away Immediately. You May Need To Vacuum On A Daily Basis.
The Second Step Is To Use A Carpet Powder, Spray Or Fogger That Will Kill Remaining Adult Fleas. By Using A Product That Also Contains An Insect Growth Regulator (igr) Such As Nylar, You Can Also Stop The Development Of Immature Forms Into Adult Fleas.
The Third Step Involves Washing The Pet’s Bedding On A Weekly Basis And To Treat The Bed And Surrounding Area With A Product Containing Igr. It Is Also Important To Treat Any Other Area Such As The Basement Or Garage Where Your Pet Might Spend A Lot Of Time.

I love my cats, but I too hate the fleas. I tried some over the counter flea drips for the cat and over the counter bombs and they did not work. I think the fleas are like other bugs and build up a tolerance and companies end up having to make stronger stuff. Anyway the stuff that worked for me and my cats was provided by a Vet at the clinic. It was a bit more expensive than that found in PetSmart etc, but it worked. One thing the vet told me was that you can never tell how old the flea stuff is at PetSmart etc and they are not licensed to sell certain product (even though they do-i.e. advantage). It is like Target selling Paul Mitchell product-You can't tell if you are getting the real, potent product.
So my advise: go to a vet that sells products and get a good flea spray/bomb and drops for your cat. Keep your cat indoors. Wipe your feet. This will reduce fleas, but fleas are out in the grass, etc. so...good luck.

Easiest thing to do.
Go to the vet and get Advantage (a flea product for your cat) put it on your cat once a month. The fleas will die off once they jump on your cat. It may take a few days, but you don't have to bomb the house or any "salt on the floor" voodoo. Be very careful, because some of the answers are poisonous to your cat, and if you don't know who's joking, you can kill your cat.

Flea collars don't work.
First, you need to take your Cat to the Vet for some spot-on drops (like Frontline). They really are the best product to kill fleas on your Cat.
Then, you mst treat your house as it's very likely flea eggs have fallen off her into the carpets. Get some spray for the furniture and powder for the carpet, and always follow the instructions on the canister. It's worth treating your house a seond or third time just to be sure, especially in the warm weather.
Good luck!

Get a flea collar or the liquids which kills fleas will be the best option. The liquid is better though cause it keeps fleas away for 1 month and works well.

BOMB THEM!
Yes the flea bomb is the best and fastest way. We had them in the basement so bad that when you came upstairs their were tons of little dots on your legs (fleas)
One BOMB and they were gone and didn't come back. Don't forget to turn off anything that has or could cause a spark like a gas stove.
OH and if you have a pet with fleas (and they don't seem to be in the house) salt KILLS them. Yes you need to be brave and get in the shower with your pet get them wet and pour salt all over them. Then pick off those dead buggers. Yep plain cheap table salt.

get your cat some flea treatment.
The problem IS NOT that they jump on you and bite you...
the problem IS that your CAT is VERY uncomfortable with fleas!!! Get her some FRONTLINE or some REVOLUTION and get rid of the fleas on your cat!!!
Then, bomb your house with some HOT SHOT fleas foggers (after you remove the cat from the home for 3 hours). This will take care of the problem.

Seven dust.
Sprinkle seven dust all around your house, let set for about an hour, then vaccum it all up. I have done this and it really helps to kill the fleas. Put your cat somewhere else when you do this as you do not want it around this much bug killer, but it is safe for pets. read the precautions on the back of the bag.

You will die soon? Yeah, of stupid syndrome.
Any animal will attract fleas, it doesn't matter how many times you wash them. Fleas will get in your house, no matter how much flea kill you clean with because while you're vacuming with flea kill, those two fleas behind the dresser upstair were just out of reach.

go to home depot and get a spray pump bottle that pest control people use and some malathon poison. Go home mix the poison with water like the directions say open all the windows and put the cat somewhere out of the way for a few hours, spray your entire house especially around door entrances, let it dry and let the rooms air out before bringing your cat back in.
