That thought has crossed my mind before too.
I don't know but I think anything like that is possible when it comes to a company that makes such huge profits based on ppl dieing or being sick.

It's been said that the common cold cure has been found and is kept locked tight in a vault owned by a major pharmectual company.
Your thought isn't so much weird as it is frightening: are cures for common medical ailments like diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer.....etc....being kept away from us to save the billions of dollars made by pharmectual firms?
It stands to make corporate business common sense that if pharmectual firms were to make the one-shot cure for many "incurable" diseases, then every living person on Earth would pay for it....and that'd be great: until the wave passes, the planet's entire population is safe and the profit money dries up---cold.
With the billions spent on treating AIDS, for example, would the cure be handed to us all---or will it too be locked away in a vault, never to be let out.
Why even stop at pharmectual firms? Isn't the same thing being done by the world's leading computer anti-virus companies you think????

No, I do not believe that. I do believe that the drug companies are in it for the money. They are currently advertising on public media to spread their message about the drugs that they are trying to sell to the public. I feel that drug companies have done a lot of good by developing many medications that are useful and have saved millions of lives. However, there is an element of actual greed in the marketing of drugs that is hard to deny.

This "thought" has be expressed before. Thankfully however, it is normally a fact only in Drama TV and Movies. ;)
Drug companies make money on the products they sell, but they need to pay for research/development and staff. And yes, it is also true that a lot of medicines on the market today are rooted in herbs and such.
I would think a better question would be: If farmers and such were given better incentives to grow fresh fruits and vegetables instead of corn (for corn syrups in soda and sweeters) and as a result the PRICE of healthy food dropped, would we even need 3/4 of the medicines on the market today?
See one (of many) source list below to read the dangers of fructose.

The drug companies do not have to spread disease. Our food supply has been depleted of the vital nutrients to keep us healthy.
Our bodies were designed to heal itself with the proper nutrition. T drug company's prevent people like me from getting the truth out about disease and healing. 58 of the world's top diseases have been reversed with glyconutrient technology. What makes me mad is the fact that the 3rd largest killer in the US is properly prescribed medications. Read JAMA

I think it's peculiar the massive amount of money spent by drug companies in researching how to help MANAGE different illnesses and diseases, but hardly anything in finding cures. I suppose that fact that there is not much money to be made with cures could have something to do with it but I'm no rocket scientist.

No. I think that people who run drug companies although can seem pretty greedy to us, do have families of their own and I'm sure that they don't want to spread diseases if they can help it. Do you know how many years it takes to research, test, and get approval for drugs? Many. I do understand what you mean though - They have alot of balls charging the prices for drugs that they do. It's disgusting...

I believe that "over the counter "drugs only serve to mask the symptoms for a designated period of time, so yes, it's better to get an antibiotic from your doctor.

yes they do i went to school to be a pharmacy technician. and from what they let on, some doctors harvest there patients to have sicknesses(not the deadly ones at least) and allow them to take certain drugs for drug companies to make money. be on the look out for them "samples" you get at the doctors. your doctor make money for using the samples, you get used like a guinea pig and the companies make millions and billions of dollars because of it.
