Actually, "thinking" is a sin in Thumper-ism.
(That's actually the religion you're talking about. It shouldn't be confused with Christianity, which has several scattered followers who really are trying, and tend to mind their own business rather than trying to pour hogwash down people's throats and make us thank them for it.)
Thumpers use "belief" in place of thought - it's a lot easier to take somebody else's word for it than to work through the logic yourself. They figure that since it was so easy for them to "accept Jesus" without giving it a moment's thought, it must be eqaully easy for everyone else. They never stop to consider that some people insist on only "believing" things that are actually true, in the factual sense - wishful thinking just isn't good enough.

Well, there is a difference between reading the Bible, and pondering it or studying it. It might help to read a commentary on the Bible so that it becomes more comprehensible. I am reading "The Fourth Thousand Years" by W. Cleon Skousen, which helps a lot to hear the Bible language turned into modern-day English in more of a summary format, along with historical notes on things like Solomon's copper works. Now when you really want to know if the Bible is inspired of God or not, the next step is to be really brave and pray about it. It also helps if you know what feelings can come after praying about it and being ready and receptive. If people are involved in at-risk behaviors, sometimes answers don't come very clearly. Also, it may be that it is not your time to be active in a particular church right now. However, in my opinion, God wants us to learn more about Him, and the Bible is an awesome start. If you feel even braver, you can read the Bible and the Book of Mormon at the same time and use them to support each other. However, if your faith isn't strong enough to go that far, like I said, it just might not be your time to be active in a church for now.

Acts. 8:30-32 we find the account of the Ethiopian eunuch, who was reading from the scroll of Isaiah -"Phillip ran alongside and heard him reading aloud Isaiah the prophet, and he said "do you actually know what you are reading?'He said "Really, how could I ever do so,unless someone guided me?"
So the ;point is,reading the Bible and understanding what you are reading are two different things.
2 Thess.3:2 - "....faith is not a possession of all people."So it is to be expected not everyone will accept the Bible as the Word of God.

You need to pray that the Holy Spirit reveal the truth of the Bible. You can not understand it without the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of it to you.
There is a difference in reading it and reading it with understanding.
You can memorize it from repeated reading but you must understand it and believe it.
The devil knows the scriptures and trembles.

You're setting yourself up to be flamed if you start off your question on such an antagonistic note, so I'm a bit hesitant to post anything in the first place. But be that as it may, not all Christians are the "Bible-thumping" type you refer to--I prefer the term "angry evangelical." I'm an evangelical minister but appreciate conversations with anyone about Christianity. I just hope that people wouldn't ask questions just to start meaningless arguments.

It works more often than you think many of my friends have converted to Christianity by continually being asked to review the Bible. It is the source for all truth after all.

Before the Bible makes sense you have to understand it in a spiritual context. Most dont, and jump around praising and dancing for reasons unknown.

Maybe you have read the Bible but did you listen to it?:
Deu 4:29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Im pretty sure you skipped this verse.
Unless you have sincerity, you will never find God.
