I have a very cute petite solid black female cat her hair is very shiny..., she is almost a year old. Her hair looks like a true brown when she is laying in the sunlight. But when she is in the house her hair looks black! When she is in the sun the brown is so pretty its like a dark chocolate. So is she black or brown? she sorta resembles a burmese. I tell everyone she is my little panther.

I think your cat is extreamly dark brown and looks darker when not in the bright light.

She is definately black (that's what it's called at cat shows). All black cats have brown pigmented hair. If she were brown, she would have markings (stripes). Since she doesn't have these markings, she is black. Black cats are solid brown, it's kinda confusing.

there is no such thing as a black cat...

i have researched this when i was breeding cats.

black cats are just a very very dark brown...

black is not a colour that occurs naturally in animals...

i had a cat that was the blackest cat to look at... but even his coat in the sun had a brownish look to it.

Aww bless our Lily is the same :-)
It took us a couple of months to realise that she was black with large brown patches around her shoulders- we found out when she was lying in the sun too!

I would say very dark brown. If she was trully black she would be black in sunlight, too. She sounds so adorable!!

Technically, she is brown. In your house, it is darker than outside. Outside, her true color shows. But, outside the light can make colors look different. But, still, I would call her brown. Hope that helps♥♥♥
