Check your temp Internet folders size. Also may need to adjust your Virtual Memory settings to allow more space on your hard drive to be used by windows. Also check your applications/programs running. (the bottom right corner by the clock is full of a buncha icons your prob running too much start to turn off the unneeded programs at startup.

It is normal for your explorer.exe program to be the highest memory usage item running. explorer.exe is (in simplest terms) the main file system for windows to run.

Run a virus scan on your computer and defragment the disk. To defragment, click start and go to all programs/accessories/system tools/disk defragmenter. Run the defragmenter and then run one more virus scan. Then, check to see if you're still having trouble with explorer.exe.

run a virus scan and a spyware scan on your computer. You can not shut down explorer.exe because that's what allows your computer to function.

explorer.exe is the main process of windows, without this process all screens, windows, ANYTHING would not show up

it is THE MOST vital process to your computer and should take up the most space

if RAM is of concern, it is easilly upgradable

Like Txmom said, run antivirus and spyware scans, check out download.com for some good ones. Spyware, adware, and viruses can really slow you down. Also, I got Spybot, and my pc's been running great ever since.

Maybe you have a Trojan Horse, or your computer needs reformatting. Try getting an extra internal hard drive that has up to 100GB.

Clean out the internet cookies, cache, temporary files and history, then defrag your computer.

Maybe it's the browser you're using. Try switching to Firefox... it's so much better than Explorer.

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.
