Granny Smith apples are harder and more tart in taste, best suited for a baking apple, as in baking apple pies. Most red apples are sweeter than Granny Smiths and are considered better apples for eating all by themselves.

granny smiths are firm, and tart. most of the sour apple candy out there imatates the flavor of a granny smith. they are well suited for baking, and a a good choice for that. as for red apples... as a general rule they are usually not as firm, usually less tart, and more sweet. there are many diffrent kinds of red apples, and only one granny smith. so, i can be exact with the discription of the granny smith, but only general in the discription of the red ones. sorry.

Granny Smith apples are very tart, but very good. As for the "red" apples---which one are you talking about? Personally, I think red and yellow delicious apples have very little flavor. The best apple I have ever eaten was an Early Harvest apple. They are an "old-timey" apple---hard to find.

Neither is better tasting. It depends on your taste, if you prefer tart juicy apples then go doe granny smith, if you prefer sweet juicy apples then go for something like red delicious.

There are many varieties of apples. You can find out about some of them here:

Granny Smiths are tart, crisp apples, commonly used for baking.
Some red varieties are sweeter, some more tart.
