I would look on KBB.com to see what a dealership is likely to offer you (80 -100% of wholesale/trade-in value is common).

Don't say things like; I hate my old car or it is a piece of junk or it has a bunch of miles. They know the less you like it, the less you probably think it is worth. Only mention what good condition it is in, positive stuff.

Also, take it to a CARMAX dealership and they will give you a written offer and will take it even if you don't buy a car there.

Call your bank and see what the payoff is. If you owe more than the car is worth the dealership can probably add the 'negative equity' onto your new car loan.

You can try to sell it private party and get more money than a dealership would offer you, but depending on the value of the vehicle, it might not be enough to waste your time.

A year left on what? A lease? a Loan? A year left of life? All that being said, YES you can, however, it is a Stupid thing to do. If you have alot of miles on your car the dealer is going to give you next to nothing for it as a trade in. Finish paying for the car and keep driving it while you save up some cash to pay cash for another car when this one dies. ALWAYS PAY CASH FOR CARS!!!

NEVER buy a new car. You lose 15% of your money when you sign the paperwork and another 10% when you drive it home. Let someone else be stupid enough to pay the depreciation of the first few years. Buy 4 year old cars and sell them when they are 7 yr old. This way you get repair free miles with the least amount of depreciation. Good Luck!

Yes you can trade your car at anytime. You need to look around and see what your car is worth though. Go to this website http://www.kbb.com/ and see what most places will look at to determine the value of the car.

Keep in mind that dealerships won't give you anything for your car because they are going to make a huge profit from your car so it would probably be best to find someone to buy it from you directly or try using http://iwanna.com or http://ebay.com

You can always trade a car in. You will usually come out of the deal better if you sell it privately, however.
