Not an escape bod, but a safe pod. The later can not be ejected but its expected to protect someone inside from certain death if the plane we're to crash in some circumstances (not all mind you)

Suppose for a moment one of the VC-25A is above the ocean, where would the escape pod go? In the ocean? And how is the prez supposed to come back, with a paddle? The fact is that VC-25A are equipped with all the sensors imaginable, and would most likely be shadowed by AWACS and JSTARS all along, no "rogue nation" fighters would come close before being detected. If the presidential plane was to go through rough area, it would be escorted by whatever military airplane are needed to ensure no one gets close enough to risk harming it. Still, if it was to be disabled with something powerful engouh, there is no way someone could go to an escape pod, open the hatch, sit in it, close the hatch and jettision, while the airplane around is torn to pieces by the blast of a missile. Unless the prez is already sitting in the escape pod, hatch closed, with the finger on the release button. Which pretty much reduces the usefulness of the space and boardroom capability the airplane has to nothing, since the president cannot use it from the confine of the escape pod. And of course, nothing is said about the possibility of the escape pod being targetted by the same airplane (that hit Air Force One) with a second missile. Another point: VC-25A's are a modified Boeing 747-200B. What does Lockheed have anything to do with it? Finally, your desire for not being president until such time as an escape pod is fitted to the presidential vehicles is noted. I am sure your constituent will take good note of the absence of your name on the ballot at next election.

:-D No. I think the first movie that featured an escape pod on A.F.1 was "Escape from New York" Other movies since with the "pod" always draw the question. Being a discovery channel buff, I've seen all the documentaries on A.F. 1. In each, the interviewee, snickers and denies that there is one. Fact is, the chief's plane has all sorts of electronic protection, and fighter escorts. The airspace around the jet is always considered restricted airspace.

Well, if heaven forbid, a missle got past the radar jamming signals from the ecm transmitter in air force one, managed not to get destroyed from a patriot missle launched from an escort fighter, and it didnt hit an escort fighter, then i'd have to say that POTUS was in trouble. There are so many counter-measures in place to assure that this doesnt happen that I dont think that POTUS has to worry. Also, most man portable missles(like terrorists use) dont go to cruising altitude, theyd need an actual SAM or an aircraft fighter to take down Air Force One. It is so unbelievably unlikely that it should happen that there probably not an "escape pod" on it. In the event of an engine failure, then they have parachutes on board.

you should know that any plane that carries POTUS is given the callsign Air Force One. but here's info on the official planes that perform this task:
the real Air Force One does not officially carry an escape capsule. However, this cannot be refuted since the exact specifications of the aircraft are classified.

Wow it's amazing what you people believe. As I used to work closely with Pres. airlift I can tell you, it's just a plane. Any "special" items that may be on the Acft are not for public knowledge. That's how the security is kept for the Acft. We used to get calls from the media looking for specifics on the airplane. We tell them nothing. It's called National Security. To openly speak about the "AF1" Acft would be a breach of that security.

No but it does have fighter escorts and i'm sure that the expierenced pilots of AF1 could handle most situations.
