immigration??? We can tell why we are pro or con! I am ANTI illegals,as most of you know. My reasons are 1.Illegals are felons.and should not be rewarded for their crimimal behavior. 2. Illegals take jobs that Americans WILL do,and they drive down wages for everyone ELSE 3.Illeglals do NOT want to pledge their allegiance to THIS country, but instead,to mexico 4. Illegals are a DRAIN on our welfare system 5.one third our prison population, are ILLEGAL aliens 6. OVER a million crimes a year are committed by illegal aliens(and for all you whiners,YES we do have a lot of legal citizens in prison, blah.blah, blah, but we can NOT deport citizens) 7. Illegals STEAL other people's identity, and should NOT receive social security benefits for committing ANOTHER felony!! And these are just a FEW of my reasons!

You are 100% correct and I agree with everything you said here. As well, yes, there are American citizens on welfare (some don't deserve it, either) but the distinction here is that they ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS and our welfare system is to help AMERICAN CITIZENS, NOT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! Also, definitely NO green card or "path to citizenship" for illegals presently in the country - deport them ALL and stop saying it is impossible - yes, it is possible. It may take time, but it is possible and it can be done and I am sure it will cost less than what they cost us while living in the country illegally. Let them apply for a temporary worker visa AFTER they leave the country on their own steam - if they don't and are later deported, NO CHANCE FOR A TEMPORARY WORKER PASS OR LEGAL ENTRY BACK INTO THE USA EVER AGAIN, because they passed up their chance to do it the right way. No rewards WHATSOEVER for illegal immigrants because that is sending the wrong message to other would-be illegals and that is also telling those who have sacrificed and waited in order to immigrate legally, that we don't respect them for doing it the right way.

1.Illegals are felons.and should not be rewarded for their crimimal behavior.
I agree with that
but I also realize that the system is making it very difficult for immigrants to enter legally.

2. Illegals take jobs that Americans WILL do,and they drive down wages for everyone ELSE
americans will NOT do all the jobs and american businesses depend on lower wages to survive in the usa (or they will have to outsource to another country)

3.Illeglals do NOT want to pledge their allegiance to THIS country, but instead,to mexico
NOT TRUE, there are illegal that want very much to be part of america and be a full american including pledging their allegiance

4. Illegals are a DRAIN on our welfare system
If they are illegal how are they getting welfare? I believe that is a myth.

5.one third our prison population, are ILLEGAL aliens
that is why if you are an immigrant you should be deported as soon as you are convicted of a crime

6. OVER a million crimes a year are committed by illegal aliens(and for all you whiners,YES we do have a lot of legal citizens in prison, blah.blah, blah, but we can NOT deport citizens)
you answered that one ;)

7. Illegals STEAL other people's identity, and should NOT receive social security benefits for committing ANOTHER felony!!
American citizens do that too

I realize that illegal immigration has become a serious problem in the US but stereotyping all people together does not help.
Deporting all illegal immigrants is not possible.
Deporting all immigrants would destroy the economy.
Any immigrant (legal or illegal) convicted of a crime should be deported immediately; leave the rest alone (it is costing far too more to harass fairly decent people).

This immigration debate is just a way of taking the american people's attention off of bigger problems.

Ok... let's clarify some things first. I agree that illegal immigrants should not be rewarded with citizenship or green cards for breaking the laws. 2. However... most illegal immigrants work on areas where Americans wouldn't work (cleaning up houses, in agriculture, etc). And if you know a bit about economics and labor markets, immigration can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the labor market balance at the time of immigration, and the level of education of the nationals and immigrants. 4. Sad to say, but many Americans are also a big burden on the welfare system, so it's not only an immigrant issue. 5. I agree that they shouldn't use fake social security cards or stuff like that, that can be harmful. But let's try to be objective when we analyze these issues and back our statments with facts and not opinions.

13 emergency rooms have closed in los Angele's county, I wonder why?????, we are infested with people we don't even know. I would hate to get into a fender bender because these are the same people that drive. ILLEGALLY, while I pay my sky rocketing car insurance. This is no civil rights issue, this is ludicrous, my ancestors were brought to this country to be a slave, and these illegals are doing the jobs that a few of us would not do, have you seen how difficult it is to bend down all day in a strawberry field, Its pretty hard especially in hot weather, but damnnnn it, that's why I graduated from college so that I did not have to work like a slave. These guys are being pimped by the American corporations, although they have committed a crime by coming over here, I'm furious over our Govt and its policy's, try not working out a payment plan with the IRS and see if they don't take you out of a house and a home. Can you believe a pass for committing white collar crime, they might as well empty the jailbirds who have committed identity thief as well as other crimes. Personally, I believe that the house will try and stall their vote until after the elections because it will be detrimental for both parties, by the way I'm a REP.

I don't think that anyone in their right mind is "pro" illegal immigrants. Not a single person would say, ok, let's just open the borders and whoever wants to come in can do so. The debate comes in on what to do with illegal immigrants. So, I don't really understand fully what your opinion is. But, on the major debate, my opinion is very similar to the president's opinion. First, we should secure the borders. Second, we should document the illegal immigrants currently in the country by offering them some sort of green card. Next, we should allow the illegal immigrants that are currently in this country to obtain citizenship through the same means that other people obtain US citizenship. If they cannot obtain citizenship after all of that, then they should be deported.

This debate is getting tiresome. The fact is, immigration did build this country. By and large, however, the immigrants who built this country did it legally. They followed the steps and did what they had to do, and years later, became citizens. They also learned English, the language of their adopted land. I am really sick of people talking about this issue while leaving out the inescapable fact that we are not talking about legal immigration. We are not mean people because we are against people coming into our country illegally. We are not mean people because we expect people to learn English. Immigrants (by that I mean people who came here legally) used to take pride in learning the language of their adopted land. Now you have to push 3 or 4 buttons just to hear a message in your own language. And one more thing...why is the Mexican president getting all pissy because we want to build a fence? Who told him he had any say in the policy of our government? Who told him anybody would care what he thinks? Our country is the greatest country in the world, and if you want to be a part of it, come on in. I truly believe that the United States is a beacon to people of all races and nationalities, and the people who come here and become Americans make an even better country. Okay, enough...bottom line, come here the right way, pay your dues (like millions of your countrymen before you) and become a citizen. Don't sneak in, refuse to learn English, refuse to pledge your allegiance to the USof A, and call yourselves immigrants.

I am also anti-illegal immigration and I agree with most of the points you stated above.

I'd like to address a small statement to user [Mimi] who posted before me.
She said: "Sad to say, but many Americans are also a big burden on the welfare system, so it's not only an immigrant issue."

-American CITIZENS may be a big burden on the welfare system, but these are ILLEGAL immigrants--they aren't citizens and aren't even LEGAL immigrants. So it's preposterous that they should get any government benefits that should instead be used to help citizens. I don't agree with welfare to start with, but illegal immigrants getting welfare benefits is ridiculous.

I recommend going to this site:
http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalrelease.html

The site basically shows how illegal immigration is a huge disadvantage to our country.

I believe though, that stereotyping illegal immigrants as criminals is foolish. There are many people who are illegal but they aren't criminals. So, don't go so far with the "anti-illegal is anti-criminal" argument (for others that answered).

I agree 100% with Sealborders. It a bunch of crap that an illegal can come here and just steal from the government and the American people and nothing is done. I could only imagine what would happen to me if I used someones SS #. An American citizen would be in jail and everyone LEGAL knows it.

where were u 10-15 yrs ago, when all this was beginning when the real wave of immigrants were coming in. why didn't the US take action then, instead of turning the other cheek. we should've closed our borders many yrs ago, but millions have come here since. we should've had troops/reserves on the borders many yrs ago. they should be closed now & for now on. teh ppl already here need to be documented and pay penalties. there is no way the gvmt will deport 12 or 20 million pple, they will get amnesty whether its a "guest worker program" or Whatever it will happen. but i disagree with stereotypes & generalizations on one race. i could go on & on about lazy Americans of all races, but i won't. these pple r being blamed for things that our Congressmen & President(s) should've taken care of a long time ago.

To borrow a line from the marchers, "Immigration built this nation!" I say indeed it did. Though surely, the immigrants who founded this nation, those who fought and died to secure it, their descendants who fought and died to keep it together, and all those coming in legally, haven't they earned the right to claim a national identity? Does our decision not to travel the road of Rome merit any consideration whatsoever? The generations of immigrants who worked and bled to build this country have earned the right to demand, “If you want to come to America, please have the courtesy to knock on the front door and quit sneaking in the back. We will welcome you as a new citizen, but do exercise good manners, learn about our laws and us before deciding you are entitled to what is in our billfolds.”
