This never goes very well, but the best way to do it is say, "I need my space. I love you, but I am not in love with you. I would like to still be friends because you are a great friend, but I need to find myself. Can we just be friends?" It doesn't help anyone feel any better, but it is the international language for "We are breaking up."

theres never a good way to dump someone. hurt is gonna happen but just be honest if its over say so dont string him along if youre really not into him anymore. he will be hurt and might say hurtful things in the moment, dont talk bad about him, give it time and maybe one day you can be friends again, it may take alot of time.

Well I think you should just tell him that you love him but you just want to be friends for now. But that it could change in the future. I mean give the guy a little hope.

Whenever there's a break-up, someone's feeling are going to get hurt (normally the dumpee's). You just gotta be up front and honest about why you're breaking up with him.
