I have long, very thick brown hair and I was thinking about getting it cut shoulder-length and getting it layered. Is this a good idea? Can I still fit it into a ponytail? Will it be too drastic of a change and will people notice a big difference?

Are "teardrops" and "tara c" right? Do you really have to cut off nine inches and can it not fit into a ponytail? Because that was the most important part... My hair is...hmm about 5 inches down from my shoulder. If I get it layered but not cut will it fit into a ponytail? Can they layer it and not cut it? (That probably sounded stupid...pardon me, I'm not really into the hair styles)

Oh in the last part I meant "kara c" not "tara c". Sorry to single you out but I need to know if it's true!!!

Layers are wonderful for thick hair, it'll be better for summer, too! I have thick hair and got layers-and I love them! My hair feels alot lighter.

Shoulder length sounds cute! I would take in a picture if possible, so you help the hairdresser to envision exactly what you want!

:)

You should go look at hair styles magazines. My hair was long a few weeks ago but was getting too long to keep up. And since its getting hot outside I wanted it off my back and neck. I used those magazines to get a more ‘realistic’ look of how hair is styled. Plus the models in the photos are ‘REAL PEOPLE’. Some of those magazines you can clip out styles and narrow down your favorites.

You should change your style about 2 or 3 times a year. Cutting your hair keeps it healthy and also keeps your look fresh and you get complements from your family, friends or co-workers.

You can also put it in a pony tail but depending on how many layers you put in, you may have stray shorter layers not staying in place. Layers are also great if you are trying to grow out bangs in a stylish way. (Just an added tid bit)

GO FOR IT! CUT IT! Change is good.

OK first of all getting your hair layered is an excellent idea. You would basically be doing more with less. Except don't reduce the length to drastically at first. Get it layered first then leave the length just below your shoulder. It will be more manageable and you will also have the ponytail option...

yea layering ur hair allows it to look more volumptuous and full. iam still able to put mine into a ponytail like always. i would suggest bringing in a picture to be sure that is the way u want it. My layer cut didnt really change my look drastically accept for the face framing layers i asked for around my face. But it gave my hair a little bit of style if i decided to wear it loose

DON'T cut the length..... layers are great.... although they are semi high maintenance.... if you don't cut the length and just get layers you should be able to still get it in a ponytail.... and the only thing drastic about it is that it won't be so heavy.... you'll notice the difference and other people as well just don't cut the length good luck and see your stylist for their opinon as well

Yes, I think thick hair is the prettiest layered. Just tell the the hairdresser you want to keep it long enough to pull back in a ponytail so she/he will know how much length they need to leave. I would get long layers to make sure you like them, next time you can get them shorter if you want. Hope you'll like your new do.

I had my hair to the middle of my back and got it layered a few years ago. I had it cut to my shoulders and kept more of long layers. Then last week I wanted it cut before graduation, and my friend cut my hair with short layers. AND I LOVE IT.... Try it first with not so short layers to see how you like it. If you like it, then go for shorter layers. Thats the only way i figured i would like it.

omg! take my advice! dont get it choppy and shoulder length! unless ur looking for it to flip out alot.. this is my exact hair cut! in the beginning i wanted flips..and it worked out..but i just got it cut and i wanted it regularly layered shoulder length and it still flipped! (my hair has natural body) so if your not a big fan of flips or ur hair has alot of body, dont get ur beautiful brown hair cut!
oh and no..it most likely wont fit in a pony tail (i can only get mine into pigtails)

YES... that is exactly wat I did. But you may need to make it a LITTLE longer so it will put it in2 a ponytail! It will be kinda drastic... and yes ppl WILL notice. Hope my anser works because I did the EXACT thing and have the exact type of hair *lol*
