I haven't but I've heard it's about on par with most airlines.

You should write to them and detail why you felt your experience sucked. Sometimes they will respond by giving you frequnet flyer miles, just to entice you into giving them another chance.
I just flew United recently--I think what makes a difference is if you can get onto an uncrowded flight. One flight I was squished in between two large men in economy--this was after I changed another middle seat so a screaming kid could sit next to his mother. But I think that would've been true for any airline's economy section.
I'm eternally grateful because on another flight I was allowed on with seconds to spare (other flights have been rigid about letting you on if you're not in the boarding area 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.) Its at the gate agent's discretion whether or not to let you on, so thats something I have to thank United's service for.
So I would say give them another chance.

I flew on United from Denver to Orange County in Oct. 2002 with my new wife and two stepsons. After boarding 30 minutes late, we were on the tarmac for 45 minutes before taxiing to the runway for take-off. No explanation for the delay. Arrived at John Wayne Airport 1-1/2 hrs late. Our return flight was cancelled with no explanation and we had to board a United Express puddle hopper to LAX, rushed to a different concourse where we were put on stand-by for a flight back to Denver. We were each offered a $25.00 coupon to be applied towards our next flight on United Airlines. I have never flown United since, and never will. I have had much better service on Frontier, Delta, Southwest, etc. United seems to have forgotten that the passenger pays their paychecks. I have sent letters to United HQ and the apathy is coming from the corporate level and filters down to the service level.

Perhaps after the airlines are forced into insolvency by rapidly increasing energy costs coupled with incipient stagflation, and nobody except for the absolutely filthy rich is even able to afford air travel, you'll think back to the glorious times in which you were able to step onto a technologically amazing piece of machinery and be transported thousands of miles for a relative pittance in cash. Did she give you a regular Coke when you asked for a Diet Coke, or something?

I've flown United and didn't find it any worse or any better than any other airline. If you felt "it sucked", and there's a valid reason behind it, write to them.

I have. The only real issue I had was that they ticketed my wife and I in different sections of the airplane. (It was our honeymoon!) A very nice Air Force officer solved the problem for us. Other than that I had no issues.
