"If you're wrong, what then?"
Then we've wasted the only lives that we have.
To truly live that logic, you would have to practice every single religious belief in existence, because if another is right, what then?
And I'll stop asking scary and critical questions about your god the day you agree to stop preaching at me, stop trying to get your unscientific beliefs taught in my science class, and stop legislating your beliefs and trampling on the civil rights of others.

Atheism, like any social organization, has an agenda which can only be accomplished if the majority of people agree with its principles. Believing in God causes people to act in certain specific ways that are counter to the goals of Atheism. Thus the need to get people to believe that there is no God.
From an Atheist's point of view, this life is all that there is, and those people who believe in God create polices that create misery for those that believe this is all we have got. That is why they care and why they are bugged by people saying that there is a God.
As a side note Atheism and Theism are not just theologicaly different but philosophicaly different. Many people do not realize that so they just talking past the other person.

The same thing applies to why people spend all their time trying to prove that God has a son, when He clearly told us many times that he doesn't. It's because people are ignorant and refuse to open their minds that the truth might not be what they initially thought.
God has no sons. Jesus was a man, a noble prophet of God.

People try to prove that God does not exist because that is their belief and everyone has a right to try to prove their belief.
Consider also that lots of people spend lots of time on proving that God exists.
People search for meaning in their lives and to some people, the existence or non-existence of God is central to their philosophy in life. So the answer to your question "Why do people spend so much timerying to prove God doesn't exist if they don't believe in Him?" is simply BECAUSE.

People who do believe in God try to do his work and spread his word into all nations. Those who don't or say they don't, by trying to prove that God doesn't exist are actually doing satan's work for him.
BTW For all of you non-believers out there - Even satan believes in God.
PS Also for all of you non-believers out there - If you are living like there is no God, then you had better hope there isn't one.
I happen to believe in God and will pray for all of you who don't.

Let's be honest, let the one who has actually seen, touch, smelled and heard God step forward with the scientific evidence. We are told to believe on FAITH and not using our senses --- which by the way is used to confirm the existence of everything else. (i do believe but i understand why one may not).

Because these people believe that since they do not believe in God that no one else should either. They believe they are correct and will do everything in their power to conflict the teachings of the Church. Remember that the Devil tried and tried to persuade Jesus In the Garden that he could give the world to Jesus, when in fact, God created everything so God would be the only one who could give anything. The devil is always trying to turn people away from God, maybe it is not these people directly, but satan might be using them to confuse people. It;s a thought!!!

I am sure that for some, it is a matter of wanting to be persuaded to believe that they are wrong. For others, though, I think it is a "mission" to try to "re-program" as many members of ANY faith as possible. These people look at all war as inspired by some form of religious fanaticism and think that it is their moral obligation to try to persuade believers that there IS no God.

I think they spend so much time trying to prove that God doesn't exist, because they are trying to convince that part of themselves, that maybe knows or tells them otherwise. What's it called ? a consience,or their soul !

If one dangles a line with a hook on the end of it and on that hook, there is bait...would you not yank it up when the fish bit?
If the fish were clever enough, they would swim away and no-one would angle anymore.
As for why would anyone go fishing, well, it's a fun way to kill some time and no-one likes hypocritical fish, anyway.

Bless your heart. I really don't care what people say about my God, as long as I know with whom I have faith, I don't mind if they keep attacking us, I believe God will one day make their heart of stone into a heart of flesh...It's all in God's timing. Meantime, just don't read about those nonsense questions...
