If good men simply laid down their lives without defending their wives and children, and their liberty, then the world would be ruled by evil tyrants. If we did nothing to stop terrorists, then they would just go on killing sprees all the time and not have to worry about getting shot at themselves. Eventually all good people would be killed and there would be no one left but murderers.
Moses presented the Ten Commandments to the Israelites, including the commandment to not kill. Yet, he frequently led them into battle to wipe out the inhabitants of several cities. God supported them in these wars because they were fighting for righteous causes. I don't see why God would keep you out of Heaven because you fought for your country, unless you were killing for evil purposes.

That's a sin like any other. There's no sin worse that any other. Even if you chortled in glee as you killed people, it would be no greater a sin in God's eyes than if you stole a bananna from the supermarket. It might, however, be harder to repent something that you enjoyed doing. The only two things required for salvation under the Christian doctrine, is confessing Jesus as your savior before men, and repenting you sins in your heart. It is entirely possible that killing men in war is not a sin at all. You'll have to look into your own heart to tell if you did it out of hate or vengeance or out of obedience to the throne (ie render unto Ceasar). If you feel like it was "Wrong", then in your heart it may have been a sin for which you need to repent and ask forgiveness. You need only do this once, and move on with your life. There's no need to look backwards once you've been forgiven.

First I'd like to thank you for serving in the armed forces and protecting all Americans in whatever combat you were sent to fight in. I do not think that fighting in a combat situation will keep you from going into heaven.
Even though I have given up on religion and feel that god does not exist, I think what matters is that there is a difference between having to kill someone and wanting to kill someone.
You had to kill in order to survive and that is a big difference than just killing someone for enjoyment

The text you've quoted, really means "though shall not commit murder in cold blood".
King David murdered and yet God described him as "a person after my own heart". Honestly, only God knows a persons heart. The Bible explains that there is only one unforgivable sin and that is to whole-heartedly work against the spirit of the Lord. All else can be forgiven through a belief in Jesus.
Grace- being imperfect but Jesus saying "it's ok, no one's perfect", is what we have to rely on. After that, make God and doing the right things, priority in your life.

What you speak of is one of the ten commandaments. The ten commandaments was one of about 8 or 9 covenants that were given by God to man. This took place some 3500 years ago. ( The first covenant or, one of the first was the "Rainbow" ). But my point is, that with the life of Jesus 2000 years ago the world has entered into the final and "for ever" covenant. There will be no more covenants.

A war veteran will certainly be allowed into Valhalla, an Afterlife for warriors and soldiers to practice their skills and party and feast untill the final battle of Good and Evil happens. Then they will fight along side Odin to destroy the forces of Evil.

In Revelation 14:1, there is a set number of 144,000 people who have been chosen to rule as kings and priests in heaven along side God and Jesus. However for those who are not chosen (which is millions of people here on Earth) to live and rule in heaven have the prospect of living in a paradise Earth. My grandfather was a Vietnam war veteran. However, he became a Jehvoah's Witness. He repented of his sins, learned about Jehovah God and dedicated his life to serving him unconditionally. Doing this put him in line for being on Earth in the future. Basically just putting faith in God and repenting, telling yourself in your heart and in prayer that you realize that killing those people was wrong, and that you are sorry that those people had to die.

Romans 13:1-4 indicates that governments are established with authority from God to punish evil-doers.
"But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain."
This bearing of the sword has to do with more than just wearing it.
The 10 commandments in the OT include "Thou shalt not murder." If this were a prohibition against killing altogether, then not only could they not have defended themselves and their families, or the weak, against powerful violent aggressors, neither could they have taken the land of Canaan, as God told them to. Think about it: When David killed Goliath, did God consider him a murderer?
Friend, your guilt in this regard is unfounded.

BibleGod may have commanded "Thou shalt not kill," but he never hesitated to do a lot of killing himself, even of innocent children. Read about the Noachian flood and consider how many children were drowned. Read about Sodom and Gomorrah and ask yourself what those children, babies, and fetuses did to deserve being burned to death. Read about how God commanded the Israelites to show no mercy to their enemies, to spare NONE of them, not even the women and children. If God disallows YOU into heaven for killing people in a war, then he should disallow himself, as well!
I, of course, believe none of the Bible, and the above paragraph is part of the reason why--God does not obey his own laws. You wouldn't knowingly elect a politician who made laws and then broke them, why would you worship a God whom you KNOW makes laws and breaks them?

Read the King James Version of the Bible. It is the only English translation from the original Hebrew and Greek Inspired by God. All other English bibles are interpretation and copyrighted by publisher and authors.
The KJV commandment is not to MURDER. there is a difference in Premeditated Murder and killing your enemy to protect you country.
