The inner eyelid and the outer eyelid:
The outer lid is just like yours and mine, but the inner one is for protection, not so much from nails and fights although it is closed then but mostly in the wind and to protect the eye from dust and dirt.
Cats being on the edge of danger much of the time can then blink their eyes without ever closing their eyes...think about it!

I agree with Sharon. Vet should have given you an antibiotic ointment and in the very least should have had an explanation for you. Sometimes you have to pay more for their services, but perhaps you want to go see one of the vets operating out of an emergency services clinic. Try to see the most experienced vet there.

Cause there main line of defense is to scratch. It is to help protect the eye.
