There are genetic tendencies that run in families for addictions but there are also addictive personalities, like workaholics who HAVE to feel good enough to work so they drink or pop pills to be able to finish their work and work overtime, and that environment contributes to addiction, overworking and high expectations. Bad environments like ghetto's can have a big effect on addictions too, if everyone around you drinks you lean towards drinking too, and if you have an addictive personality and genetic tendency you are 99.9% gonna take that drink or drug.

Umm, hey, there is no such thing as "environmentally hereditary". But, just as with alcoholism, people can inherent a tendency toward drug addiction. That does not mean that have to or will become addicts. It also does not excuse the behavior or choices they make. ...Yes, the environment does play a role, as it is what usually "triggers" the problem in an individual who is predisposed to drug problems...Don't forget that there are many people who simply choose to experiment with drugs and then become addicted. Regardless of whether a person has a genetically inherited predisposition to drug addiction, the decision to begin to use drugs is still 100% under his/her control.

Nature vs. Nurture it particularly is the question, a controversy that has on no account been won. i've got faith in the “Epigenetic concept”, meaning, i've got faith that genetics’ and chemistry grant a beginning up; at the same time with our unique and individual helpful properties, conduct, moods, and so on. Genes are the molding for the character. the ambience performs as an activation or set off that would or won't deliver approximately the aptitude of our below lining genetic makeup. So sure, i think of it is hereditary. yet whilst the ambience on no account provides you the temptation, than the gene will on no account floor.

It goes back to the psychological debate of nature versus nurture, and it's been found that both play a major role in personality traits and addictions.

It depends on the addiction and your genetics. Though alcoholism IS a genetic trait, it is not a genetic addiction for all who are alcoholic.
