You aren't doing anything wrong. Some people do not understand the doctrine. Some people don't care to learn about it. Some religions see every person in an LDS church is a person not in their church giving them money.
Some people are genuine and honestly believe you are misguided and they want to help you "find the truth".
Don't concern yourself with them.
Same goes for any other religion. Some people are against Jews, Catholics, Muslims, Wiccans, etc. etc. Some people just have to have an enemy to rally against.
Oh, yes... and people are not informed and keep spreading the misinformation they hear. (i.e. theswarm666x) Like Mormons have more than one wife. THEY DONT. They did.. .they dont now. It is against Church policy. True, some people dont follow Church policy, just like some Baptists dance when some Baptist Sects forbid it. Some people use the excuse of Mormonism to have more than one wife when the Church will excommunicate anyone they can prove is doing it.
Also "Confused 1 M..." is confused. The Top Ten wanted man is NOT a Mormon. Warren Jeffs has his OWN religion. He is the founder and prophet of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints.
So you see, xlindsey_xlu, even some people on this list have no idea of what the heck they are talking about... so how do you expect them to be rational about your religion??????????????

Most of what I know about the origins of Mormonism I learned from an episode of South Park. But what I saw there made me question how anyone could believe that Joseph Smith actually found golden tablets and all of that. But I know that South Park can be just a little misleading at times :)
I know some people think the same thing about the Bible, that they don't understand why most Christians believe that it is the inspired word of God, but there's a lot of archaeological evidence to back it up, and as old as it is, people have found copies of some of the books of the Bible that are only a decade or two old.
One of the reasons I don't agree with Mormonism is that it adds 3 other books to the Bible, and often holds them up as more accurate than the Bible.
I think that Mormons have a lot right. The family should be so much more important than it is in our culture, and in many other religions. I don't know about being too legalistic, but I think many people in our culture are addicted to a lot of substances, especially caffeine, and they don't want to admit it to themselves. (I can't really talk. I eat waaaaay too much sugar.) And many Mormons are passionate about their beliefs, willing to put them into practice. You try not to be hypocrites, which is an incredible struggle. But just because you guys have a lot of really good values, doesn't mean that you're right about everything, and I think a lot of the core doctrine of Mormons is wrong.
I certainly don't think you're a bad person. Mormons do amazing things, and are usually very strong in their faith, and that's great. But even if you're not killing people, you still sin, you still do things that are against God's Law, even if it's only a bad thought. So I believe that you've already done many things to keep you out of heaven, and I have too. But Christ died for our sins, took them upon himself so that we could go to heaven if we accepted his sacrifice. Thank God!

You cannot fence sit in the LDS church. You are either in or out. No in betweens.
Mormon males believe they are gods.
Mormon church excommunicated my wife when they thought we were co habitating.
Mormons do run governments contrary to what they claim. As a note, Idaho State has recently installed a Mormon Governor and as a Lt. Governor, a direct descendent of Ricks family . This in itself is not wrong. What is wrong is the fact that many in the Mormon Church do politically control their governments from the local level on up.
I do not hate Mormons as a whole but I do hate the so called inner doctrine that some tend to say is the only way ANYONE will get to heaven. ( Meaning youu must be a good standing member in the LDS Church)

I think it is because there is a stigma becasue of the media. Most people I hear bashing Mormons usually make a snide comment about how they have tons of wives or follow a crack pot who found golden plates from God. These are rude things to say, and most of those people don't even know much of anything at all about Morrmons. It's kind of like what is happening to Catholics now days. So many people hear in the news about these molesting priests, and now Catholic priests are the butt of many jokes. I would take what people say about your religion, I'm assuming you are Mormon, with a grain of salt. Those people that bash it are just being rude. If you someone doesn't agree with your faith, they are better off just not saying anything mean and moving on.

Because they are an occult. They add to the bible, and actually think that they write their own "books" for the bible. They also wrote their own bible and made up a prophet who lived here in the US. Also, if you haven't heard, on America's Top Ten Most Wanted list is a mormon who is a child molester and marries young girls to older men who have mutiple wives, and takes all of their money and makes them live like the Amish... Don't get me wrong, I know that that group is extreme, but their beliefs are very wrong. Blasphemous would be the correct term. Anyone/Any religion who adds or subtracts from the bible is BLASPHEMOUS.

It stems from fear and ignorance. Those of us who are not Mormons do not understand your religion. The media does not report on the good that your Church does. What we see is the practice of polygamy and the doings of a few non-mainstream prophets. To those outside the Church, these things seem odd.
I, personally, am not against Mormonism. But I can understand the existence of bias in this country. If you look at mainstream America, it seems to be a pretty intolerant place. Racism and xenophobia are evident in all levels of society.
It's sad that we as a nation can't make room for everyone.

All types, come and knock on my door to preach. I don't mind, and will let anyone in. I have one condition though... That they only preach out of the Bible. To me it seems that they preach more out of the book of mormon than they do the bible. If the BOM is just a 'reference' book, then why can't they quote as much scripture from the bible rather than the BOM.
I am answering your question, in hopes that I do not offend you. I can only speak for myself. I am not saying that Mormons are wrong, but in my heart, I just don't feel close to the BOM. When I was told to pray and ask the Holy Spirit about the BOM. WHen they came back for their visit, I told them that I did, and that the Holy Spirit told me that the BOM was not what I needed in my life. They took offense to this, and my husband ended up having to ask them to leave because the guy got real rude, and huffy with me.
Also, he told us that there are different levels of heaven, and that we would not see the highest level. This level was reserved for Mormons.
Maybe I just got a bad representation of a Morman? I am not sure. I am comfortable with my walk with God. I did not like that they came in to try and change that.
Do I know good Mormons? Sure! I have a friend who is a Mormon. Do we discuss religion? No... Her walk with God is hers. Mine is mine. We have an understanding and RESPECT each other. Did I tell her about my visit with the Mormons.. No I did not. I would never do anything to hurt her. I can tell she is close to God, and that she is the most kindest person I have ever met. I don't believe she is lost. I believe that no religion is perfect. I believe that one day God will make things right, for people who truly want to be saved.

component of that is their own heritage, and the heritage surrounding their heritage. The early heritage of the church surpassed off a era after the Revolution, and the Church of britain wasn't the State Church any more effective, and a good number of different Protestant communities crammed the pick. a good number of non secular experimentation went on all thruout the hot England and Midwest. regrettably, the Missouri team of mormons irked the close by previous settlers (who were no longer very 'social' both), no longer through violence or debate, yet with the help of their interpretation of doctrine, and how the hot Jerusalem would arrive quickly, and that that that they had get all the Missouri lands. Joseph Smith had to bypass to Missouri a number of cases to placate state and county officials, even if the settlers weren't of a even minded temperament. Skirmishes surpassed off frequently and violently, and the state administration turned right into a fan of the unique settlers, and finally Smith and a number of different others were murdered. The resentment seems to proceed to be in the present day, even if that is more effective doctrinal than social. the numerous objective are former teachings that were made unlawful, and the enormous chip on the shoulder of the church through that is insistence that they on my own own the in undemanding words reality. besides, it really is my guess.

Because you use your own mormon book the same way as you use your Bible, and it's dangerous to add even one word to God's Word.
Because you believe that you have to do good deeds in order to be one of the 144,000 in the last days, which is odd because there are more mormons than that!
Because you believe that Jesus visited the people in America after His resurrection. There is simply no basis for this Biblically.
I'm not against mormons individually, but I wholeheartedly disagree with the beliefs of your religion.

I admire the tenacity of mormons, their love for the family and willingness to help others, truly godly characteristics. The problem I have is that the Bible is complete, In fact there is a verse in Revelation that says anyone who adds or takes away from this book will be under a curse. Look it up for yourself and see. Clearly mormons believe the book of mormon is an addition thus making it something spoken of as to not accept in the Word of God,
