My two year old son severely bit his tongue, causing some considerate bleeding at first. The bleeding stopped after a couple of minutes, but he's in some discomfort. I understand the mouth tends to heal quickly, but how do I reduce the pain in his mouth?

My daughter did the same thing when she was about 1 yr. old! The tongue will heal itself very quickly---he won't need stitches. Give your son Motrin or Tylenol for pain.

Go to the doctor. Don't take any chances with infection with such a young child. For quick pain relief, children's Tylenol or Motrin should do the trick. Just follow the directions on the package and consult a doctor about the tongue just to be on the safe side.

I bit my tongue nearly in two when I was in 4th grade, when I feel off a two-story house and landed on my chest and hit my chin. All they did was have me suck on ice for the rest of the day and it was heeled enough for me to go back to school bright and early the next day without missing a beat. To this day I still have a "canyon" of a mark, but it was over nearly as fast as it happened.

Have any Popsicles? the cold will take down swelling and distracts the baby from his pain...and if u have some children's Motrin or Tylenol give baby some...stay away from ASA or Motrin as this may cause the wound to keep bleeding

I just bit myself pretty bad recently, was tender for days. Most I could do was just bite a tissue and tried to ignore the bad pain until it let up a bit. Maybe a treat of soft ice cream might feel good to him?

Ice, popsickles, ice cream. One thing that works really good is Zilactin, it's about 20% lidocain and comes in little swabs like Qtips, grape flavor, you swab it on and it numbs really good, I use it for cankor sores. Walmart sells it along with other drug stores. There is a touch of lidocain in Orajel but the Zilactin is stronger.

Anbesol is the quickest solution to pain, but tastes nasty, just a warning. They have it for kids too.
