The only thing you can use is an ophthalmic ointment, acquired from a vet but first a vet needs to take a look at the eye and determine what the problem is and which of the many creams to use?
What kind of an infection is it, what part of the eye is infected, what antibiotics would work on it?

I would seek a vet. Infections are very common and if not treated can lead to blindness. It's also the time of year, when allergies are extreme, and it might be that, which only a vet could tell you. In the mean time, wash it out with warm water. There are things you can purchase at a pet store, eye drops, eye cleaners, cleansers, etc, but these are all mainly for flushing an eye out and will NOT remove any sort of infection. Warm water will help the bacteria from getting worse, but the first chance you get, go to the vet.
Good luck!!

You can use a triple antibiotic ointment on the eye. It is safe, and will not hurt the dog.
One of my dogs attacked another dog of mine and really messed up it's eye. I took him to the vet, but at the time my funds were very low, and couldn't afford to have anything done. The vet told me to keep the eye clean, and put triple antibiotic ointment over the eye. It did the trick, the infection disappeared within a few days, and the dog is just fine.

Hi,
If you can't make it to the Vet now, make sure to just rinse the eyes with sterile eye drops, that have a PH Balance for dogs. Also, if you do use a cloth to wipe his eyes, don't let the cloth pass over both eyes, it will contaminate the eye that is not affected
I use single use Bausch and Lomb. "Moisture Eyes" It is preservative free, it is just a lubricant. Try not to touch the tip of the applicator. It has a few drops in each single use dispenser.
Try to keep him in a dust free, mold free environment.
I especially use it for our dogs, afer the beach. Good luck, hope you find a good Vet for your special dog/friend.

Go to Wal-Mart pharmacy. Get or ask for help finding a tiny tube of salve for use in human eyes. (it is used for pink-eye) put a dab in dogs eyes, rub it arounc to make sure it is inside the eye. Fleas may have caused the problem.. SO TAKE care of that also.

Terramycin is an antibiotic eye ointment that's hard to go wrong with & as far as I know, is over the counter. DO NOT use ANYTHING with a steroid of any kind in it. Of course, the best answer is.... see the vet asap- eyes aren't something to fool w/ !

Nothing. Take your dog to the vet. And don't follow any other advice from yahoo answers about your dogs health. A lot of people here wouldn't know their *** from a hole in the ground. Let alone veterinary medicine.

Take him to the vet ASAP! The antibiotics for humans do NOT always work on dogs.
