DEATH AND HELL

Psa.23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the SHADOW of death, I will fear no evil: for
Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Flesh death of the body is a SHADOW of death, a silhouette or likeness of the second death.

Heb.9:27 And as it is appointed unto men ONCE to die, but after this the judgment:

If you are already dead why then after this the judgment?

Matt.10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather
fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Fear (revere) God Who can destroy both soul and spiritual body, that is second death.

I Cor.15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and
there is a spiritual body.

There is a flesh body and a spiritual body.

II Cor.5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: II Cor.5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) II Cor.5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Absent from the flesh body, present with the Lord.

Ecc.12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Ecc.12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God Who gave it.

The spiritual body and soul return to God.

I Cor.15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall
have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.

The second death is what Christ paid the price for. Until the mortal puts on immortality he is still considered dead or liable to die the second death.

Ezek.18:4 Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

All souls are God’s. The verdict for sin is the second death.

Heb.2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

God through flesh death paid the price for the second death. Satan already sentenced to the second death has been defeated. Satan can’t say we deserve the same verdict.

Rev.2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that
overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Those who overcome Satan become immortal, the first resurrection.

Rev.20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

The rest of the dead, that is mortal souls, missed the first resurrection, that is immortality, until the thousand years are finished.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

A thousand years, a time of teaching by those who had part in the first resurrection.

Rev.20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from Whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Rev.20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

The dead, that is mortal souls.

Rev.20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. Rev.20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Don’t read over that. Death, that is Satan, and hell, that is separation from God, were cast into the lake fire, the second death.

Rev.20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The second death.

I agree with some of the answers given as well as the many bible text's. It seems that in Gen. 2:7 When God formed Adam out of the dust, then breathed into his nostrils that is was only after these two things were together that he became a living soul. Therefore you are a soul, you don't have a soul. Just as you are a Christian, you don't have a Christian. The idea of the natural immortality of the soul is of Pagan origins and is not taught in the bible. A few text's can be taken out of context to seem to say that life after death is instant and that the soul never dies but that would mean that everyone gets eternal life. and John 3:16 uses the word "perish" for those who do not receive the life which is Christ. 1 John 5.
God alone has immortality. Paul says this mortal must put on immortality, speaking of Jesus return. Solomon says when you die the thoughts perish and that the dead don't praise God. Dust to dust. Job says in my flesh shall I see God not in my spirit of in my soul.
Does hell matter?
In the old testament the understanding was that everyone who dies goes to hell. They understood that Sheol, translated hell was simply the grave. Later Jesus used Gehenna as a description of hell, which was the garbage dump outside the city. It was a valley were whatever wasn't burned up got eaten by maggots.
I hope this has been helpful to you.

According to Jehovah's Witnesses and their interpretation of Ecclesiastes 9:5, "The dead are conscious of nothing." So, according to them, they cannot still feel, think and make decisions. According to all Protestant Christians and Catholics, the dead are either in Heaven or Hell, with the exception of Catholics, sho believe a portion of these may be in Purgatory (a temporary hell, which after that they will go to heaven). These groups of Christians believe according to cited biblical scripture that the dead/risen spirits are not waiting judgement day and that judgement day comes for each of them as they die. But for the living the real judgement day will come and all the people at that time will be judged by Jesus according to their deeds in life and their current heart condition.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that when Armageddon comes, Jesus and 144,000 of "the annointed" class will do this judging.

It really depends on who you talk to because everybody is interpreting the scriptures according to how they want to believe and preach.

What would they make a decision about? Why would Heaven and Hell no longer be relevant? If they are waiting for judgment, than I can't think of anything that would be more important. Even if hell isn't the constant fire that we often picture it as, its still a place without God. There could be nothing worse than not being in the presence of God.

NO!
Actually when people die; they're asleep in the grave. Death is called a sleep (Matt.9:24; John 11:11; 1Cor.15:51; 1Thess.5:10).
The spirit goes back to God that gave it!(Eccles.12:7; Psalm 146:4)

ECCLESIASTES 9:5-6 "For the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished;..."

PSALM 115:17; 6:5 "The dead do not praise the Lord, nor any who go down to silence. For in death there is no rememberance of You; in the grave who will give you Thanks."

JAMES 2:26 "For as the body without the spirit(breath) is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

Death is the opposite of life. All our senses are linked to our physical bodies. Our ability to see, hear, and think depends on the proper functioning of our eyes, ears and brain. Without eyes we cannot see. Without ears we cannot hear. Without a brain we cannot do anything. When a person dies, all these physical organs cease to function. We cease to exist. Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 says "As for the dead, they ar consious of nothing at all...There is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [the grave] the place to which you are going." Psalm 146:3,4 also says "Do not put your trust in nobles...His spirit [life force] goes out, he oesback to his gorudn; in that day his thoughts do perish." So with these two scriptures we can see that the dead cannot think, feel or make any decisions. That is why in my religion we do not belive in a heaven or fiery hell. We believe that everyone who puts faith in Jehovah God can have the opportunity for Everlasting life. For more info, contact me by e-mail.

No sweetie, they are not waiting for judgement day, that happened when they died. I know this goes against what a lot of people believe, but read the story of the rich man and the beggar Lazarus. In it, you will see the rich man is already in hell, and Lazarus is already in heaven, in the arms of Abraham.

The verse is located in Luke 16:19-31.

As I understand it, the dead are simply resting, and will not be judged until the Second Coming of Christ. They will be judged on their acts while they were alive. If we died and suddenly had some kind of reassurance that God was real, then there would be no point in living a Godly life because we could repent after we were dead.

Only the body is dead, this is the soul which faces everything either bad or good.
It can feel and think but no more option to make decissions.
It feels the pain or pleasure very deeply.
Once the bad souls will be rewarded with punishment, they will ask Allah the ALmighty to send them back to the world so that they could pray and spend life according to his commandments but Allah will say 'no more option at all. now feel the tast of punishment, this is due to your misdeeds there in the world.

. Eccl. 9: 5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.
