just open the Bible and pick a verse and just make up what it means just to stir things up? Some of the questions on here baffle me- They obviously have a Bible, but don't know how to read it.
Just wondering!

Rule of thumb

NEVER read a Bible verse.

ALWAYS read the whole chapter.

You can take a verse out of context so easy. It is like looking at a teachers hour long lecture and reading one sentence out of the whole lecture and thinking you can get the info from the whole lecture in that one sentence.

There is a right way to read any book. You would not read one sentence in Moby Dick or a Tale of Two Cities and think you know the story would you?

I think they some of them actually hunt for the most difficult verses that, when taken out of context, call God into question. It's not just to stir things up, it's to cause doubt.

Someone will go to the Bible and read that verse without reading the context and will become confused or discouraged by the difficult passage.

There are those, though, who come across difficult passages and want them explained. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. When in doubt I think it's best to answer as if it is sincere.

Unfortunately, most people read the Bible in that way. It never occurs to them that all of the verses must be put together to get the true meaning. That is how we have so many different denominations and interpretations. Be sure though, there is one truth, it is impossible to have more thsan one. There cannot be two opposite things that are true. One is false. I do not claim to know everything. Our mission is to do the best we can as humans and that is why God gave us forgiveness.

There's a "right way" to read the Bible? I wasn't aware that it came with an instruction manual.

Yeah, I think I fell for one of those questions. I'm just going to let them wonder from now on. Some of them don't seem to really want answers, they just want to vent.

And it will always be this way. People hear but, they don't listen. They look but, don't see.
