parents look for trust in the babysitter. Once the parents trust the particular babysitter, I am sure they would use her over and over again.
good traits of them would be recommendation of other parents about the particular babysitter, love, care and attentivness and alertness of the babysitter when dealing with the children. self discipline is also very important in babysitting a child. u should never leave the children alone to do their stuff when the parents are not around as an accident could happen anytime to them.
disapproval of babysitters would be when the babysitter is found out to be lazy and doing her own stuff most of the time not taking care or playing with the kids. for example, the babysitter do not care of what the children are doing and just stucks her butt to the sofa watching TV all night till the employers come home.
just remember to have a good reputation and show that u can be trusted and can handle the kids well! this would ensure a good future in ur babysitting career.

I have two boys and here is some advice...
Try to find someone who has taken the "babysitters courses" offered in many cities. This certifies them in CPR and first-aid. Get some references...ask them for three adults you can call to get some opinions on the sitter. Ask her what his or her grades are like. Having a babysitter that has a positive relationship with their own parents is also a give away. Invite the sitter over to babysit while you are there the first time. You can be working on your computer or making phone calls...try to see how the sitter interacts with your child. Good luck! It also helps if your sitter already has a drivers license. It's easier than picking them up and dropping them off, especially if it is late. Don't rehire a sitter that sits on the phone with her boyfriend all night. Try to make it like a supervised "play-date" that your child looks forward too.

The most important thing to me is that they follow my instructions. Dependability, maturity, and the ability to handle situations in a calm and appropriate manner. If a babysitter does not follow my instructions, I will never hire them again.

im not a parent but ive noticed things ABOUT things they look for...i had to take out all my piercings (tongue, lip, arms, a lot more,) and stop wearing all black when i was getting asked questions and stuff...they want the babysitter to be a positive rolemodel on their child..well if they care enough. well good luck with finding a good answer.

Availability! Then reliability, and friendly with children. I disapprove of them if they invite friends in the house, or let my child watch movies that are too mature.

I'm not a parent, but I once read a book about baby sitting, and book for baby sitters. Reliabillity, responsibility, honesty, morals, maturity, respect for authority. The lack of the above would be reason for disapporval.

well as a mom myself i would say to just let them know the real u. and then leave it up to there if they want u or not. all we want most of the time is to know the person we r leaving them with thats why i stick with family most of the time. and u need to take some of those classes on babys and kids and bring ur thing that says u did it too.

The kids really enjoy you coming over anddon't want you to leave, and if you interact with them. Maybe CPR and first aid. Can you drive, are you trustworthy, responsible, punctual, dependable, mature .Good luck.

How mature they are. How they treat my child. Whether or not they know CPR.
