If you hide yourself under a mountain of clothes for fear of what you will cause men to think or feel, and are told by your family and teachers that you are sinful if you cause desire in men, then don't you see that as oppression?
If you've ever been to a nudist camp, you'll realize that the human body is just that, a body. Not all men become drooling lechers when they see a nude woman.
All men do not think of women as sinful if the sight of their body causes them to feel aroused.
What have you been told? That you are the cause of men's sin? Do you blame women for being raped, saying they must have asked for it?
All these perverted ways of thinking are the oppression!!!!!!!!

I guess they're not, if they have the choice. Women in Europe were covered almost as much or as much, depending on what Muslim fashion you're talking about, during the medieval era. It wasn't quite so forbidden to show hair, as you could have it uncovered if you were a young unmarried girl or a noble woman (sometimes), and skin showing was off and on a taboo thing, except the legs, but it was essentially the same thing. It's just that the women in Western culture eventually decided that it wasn't so necessary to be covered up, until the point that we're about the exact opposite. Sometimes I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

i agree with ...twogingerkisses....as to the general question..however...i know muslims from pakistan.....the mother is covered and one daughter in law is covered...the other girls are not..they tell me that it is by choice that the two women are covered...they say they wanted to wear the covering in helping them be humble and have respect for their religion...the other girls are afraid to cover...afraid of the reaction of the non-muslims...they go to public schools...work in public places...these women are not oppressed..they think for themselves..are educated..but they do choose to live their religion...i think it is a myth that they MUST be covered...but i also believe that in some muslim areas of the world....that men get carried away...and make demands....just as it is here in good ole free america...men sometimes can make demands upon the family...so what else is new

I'd feel oppressed if I was viewed as a great big vagina, responsible for provoking illicit sexual thoughts in the minds of men and therefore had to completely cover myself. It seems very oppressive in this century that women are compelled to hide themselves. It's like saying a woman deserved to be raped because of what she was wearing. Women are not to blame for men's inability to control themselves.

Allah the Almighty says, that the women should be covered completely as they are the most precious creature of this world.
Today sex has become a sick subject but if you think implementation of this philosiphy, you will get rid of that sick subject.
There is a lot of details behind that, I would rather that you contacted a good islamic scholar.

they are trained from birth to follow the law of the koran and taught to like...they don't know anything else so they don't know or feel they are oppressed...for instance...in the koran woman should be not educated...must cover their face...because if they get raped it is the girls fault for showing a part of her skin to a man...woman can't leave abusive husbands...the husband has a right to kill her if she leaves....if the man commits adultery he has to pay a fine...if a woman commits adultery she must be killed...muslim men like to rule over their weak willed wives because it gives them a since of power...it is childish...it is not love..

It is a reality for some muslim countries to force their women to wer hejab as they call it. They believe that women are inferieur and they should serve their men as best as possible or they will deshonour their men and their families!!
