Avast has a scanner and virus cleaner. You have to have the free home edition anti-virus software though. I really like this one. I had a win32.sasser on mine and it washed it right out and restored some files. My PC is running smoother now. It also has a kick a$$ database update. The only thing that it doesn't seem to be compatible with is the Adaware software. But that is because it is a data miner. AND on the plus side of things, both the anti-virus and the cleaner are totally free. Yeah, I have the Adaware SE on my computer too. But you can set it up to accept the program as safe file.

ok' Now for the reality. there's no such situation as a "proper unfastened AV" All unfastened AV's have there protection holes. whilst it includes unfastened AV's there all turds. What you're able to desire to do is %. the single which stinks the least. AVG, No root kit protection, can no longer get rid of 0.5 of what it unearths, valueless junk. Avast, No heuristic scanning in the unfastened version different than for e mail. You circulate to a area it particularly is contaminated with that form virus it won't hit upon it or get rid of it. there are a number of viruses that i individually seen Avast no longer able to get rid of. Avira, Has problems updating. It additionally has problems with faults positives. The time for a solid AV is earlier your workstation gets contaminated. a important sort of human beings at right here will inform you that the job of a solid AV is to freshen up in a while. it particularly is a few thing that i chanced directly to be a lie. a solid AV will shop it from taking place. the only one I even have seen so some distance that works that way is Kaspersky. in the journey that your workstation is clean it is going to stay clean with Kaspersky on watch. you are able to acquire all that unfastened junk in case you decide on and notice if it is going to clean it off. yet there is largely one AV suitable now which will shop it clean. Kaspersky. (EDIT) the single below me has no concept what there speaking approximately. by utilising the time you acquire any unfastened AV, Then a unfastened firewall you will use greater reminiscence then a multi functional might use. it particularly is trouble-free understanding that AVG & Avast with a unfastened firewall will use greater reminiscence. yet another a style of lies i became telling you approximately. unfastened AV's and firewalls use greater reminiscence. it particularly is the reality. all and sundry that declares they do no longer are the two mendacity or don't be attentive to what there speaking approximately.

I was using AVG, but just downloaded Avast today. It found TWO viruses that AVG did not. Now I have them both. I figure if I think I have a virus and one doesn't catch it, the other will ease my curiousity. I would go with Avast though. It has a LOT more features and options.

Today, many ISPs bundle free security in with their service packages. I know Earhtlink does with its high speed service, Netscape has a pretty good anti-spyware program with its browser. E-trust EZ Anti-virus has an whole year's free trial.

However, I think $40 or $50 is a small price to pay to keep your computer up and running. Just my opinion, mind you.
